How in the heck...
do you get the fuel injectors to come off.
Not all together, but just one. Thanks, Keith |

Re: How in the heck...
A lot easier than putting them back on without having a leak. Once you've removed the holder stuff the rail just slides out. If I remember right you need to take the bank off to be able to take one out of the holder for replacement. If you need to replace one I've heard great things about the places that will clean and blueprint the flow of 'em. Doesn't do much for performance but tends to up mileage enough to notice. Costs about $20 a piece. Might want to pick up a used set, send yours away (if you were planning on replacing one) that way you're not sitting SVXless.

Re: How in the heck...
See attached PDF Looks fairly straightforward, but you will need to replace the O rings on any injectors you remove.

Re: How in the heck...
I've never replaced an O ring.
You can remove individual injectors without removing the fuel rail. Remove the electric plug and the 2 screws and pop off the cap, then twist the injector 90 degrees so you can get a large flat blade screwdriver under the plastic electric plug part and pry up very gently on it.

Re: How in the heck...
I always do, that 99 cent O ring is a whole hell of a lot cheaper than replacing your car when it catches fire! The fuel is under high pressure in the rail, so any leak and you'll have a nice atomized spray that is very readily ignitable, I wouldn't risk it.
Also from a work standpoint, if you are going to have it apart, it's a lot easier to replace them while you have it apart and not have to f**k with it later, than have it leak and then you have to take it apart and fix it.

Re: How in the heck...
Are the O-rings a subaru part or something I can get at an autozone.

Re: How in the heck...
don't forget to clean up the bosses for the injectors.. They can be corroded ad can ruin a new o-ring. Also use some lubricant to help slip them into the bosses.

Re: How in the heck...
You might be able to get them at autozone, I don't know what they cost from Subaru, my power steering o-ring was like 2 bucks.

I would get them from Subaru because of the importance of having the exact size, but that is just me. |
