That stops smoke from inside the engine bay. That video is smoke from the exhaust which means that some oil (perhaps got into the cylinder and burned.

Maybe it was just some gas that laid in the cylinder for a while. Like everyone else has said, if it doesn't came back for a while, maybe it was just a fluke.

Re: WTF is wrong now........

Valve guides and seals don't start leaking "suddenly", it is a very gradually process.
It is more likely that the oil has come from the inlet manifold, through the crankcase ventilation system.

Harvey.

Re: WTF is wrong now........

I washed the engine off after I resealed the valve covers, though it is STILL smoking under the hood. Something is still dripping onto the passenger exhaust. Whatever, it smokes it smokes. I cant dump anymore money into it at this point. The exhaust smoke is still there, it did it again thismorning. Seems like it only does it after sitting all night. Hopefully it will go away.

Re: WTF is wrong now........

So, Ive been switching up which SVX I drive, and today I decided to drive my 92. It seems so much smoother steering wise... a lot eaiser than my 95. So after school today, I decided to investigate. Checked the fluid level of the power steering, and it was way over filled. So I took out quite a bit of it, and also changed the belt. Started the car, and noticed pretty quick that its running quieter. The steering also seems smoother. So I drove it around for a little bit, making some hard turns, and I noticed something else. The binding that I was feeling, seems to be gone. It would always do it when pulling into my parking space, and this time it didnt. I pulled in 3 or 4 times and it didnt do it at all. Could having too much fluid cause the car to shake when turning/accelerating? If so, then I seemed to have fixed that issue.

Also, the car is still smoking, but after I started it today (it had sat for about 18 hours) There wasnt as much. Its still there, and I can smell it, but not as bad. I checked the oil, and its actually a little over the full mark as well. Could that cause it to smoke like that? Its not over filled by a lot, maybe 1/4 inch over the F mark on the dipstick. Should I drain some of it out?

Re: WTF is wrong now........

just a quick question and comment about this.. are you using ATF in the steering or Steering fluid... it's designed for ATF... I used Steering wheel fluid once.. it screwed up my seals and made the pump run badly (binding and chugging) cleaned everything out and put the ATF back in and all was fine...

I've been driving Subaru since 1976... valve guides are almost always the culprit on the smoke that I saw in your video.. watch your level.. drive normally and you can drive a long time before it becomes too bad to drive. eventually you will need to replace the seals.. but you won't kill your engine unless you let the oil get too low...

it more than likely didn't "Just start"... it probably has been doing this gradually for a while... but.. that big puff of white smoke that you just noticed is always a surprise..

Have fun and don't despair

Re: WTF is wrong now........

you know, its ironic that you mention all this
just recently i had noticed smoke coming from my engine bay (not from the exhausts) and i couldnt tell for the longest time where it was coming from

then i finally saw there was some ATF on the passenger side exhaust

took it to a car wash and cleaned and power washed that section of the engine tonight.

anyway, a few weeks ago i needed to refill my power steering fluid (was hearing groaning noises when i steered), so i did
and the week after that is when i noticed the smoke

im just wondering, where is the ATF that was dripping onto the exhaust coming from?
would that be the power steering?
because the exhaust (pass. side) isn't exactly under the power steering resevoir

im assuming that you had the power steering ATF on your passenger exhaust, but i guess the main question is, how does it get there?

Re: WTF is wrong now........

Alright, so shes smoking, a lot. This time, from the engine. Exhaust too, but one thing at a time. So I pulled into the gas station after I got home from the Fall Colors meet, and smoked out everyone else at the gas station...

So, there is fresh oil covering the crossmember, and dripping from there, dripping from the oil pan, and dripping from the transmission. Its smoking on both sides. Is that a symptom of the rear main seal?

Rear main seal, seperater cover, or t/c seal... Are you sure it is engine oil???

It could be coming from the PS pressure line. I have that problem right now with one of my cars.

I think thats what it is... What else could it be? There is a gaining puddle on the ground of whatever it is. Its dark in color, brown. So I assumed oil.

man dennis, i know how you feel, my svx is smoking too. but mine is coolant from the heater hose. I agree that someone who drives an svx needs a back up car as well. Not a car for a poor college student like myself.
