Why does everyone insist that the 94-97 cars were governed to 143?

Well within the industry standard of error. Averages from an article I read a few years back was 7 percent off for Jap cars, American was 3 and Europeon was 10 percent. I too have had mine faster than 143 indicated but that doesn't mean too much. Just know I was in that range.

I have inspected the ECU program from a USDM 94 and I can't find a speed limiter in there. The JDM one on the other hand is obvious.

Same here and also a 94 FWD LE model. As I have said before, it was the fastest of my cars both off the line (not surprising with ratio and lighter weight) and top end.

I've yet to find the limit on my 94 LSi...

But I haven't had it up to those ranges, I read somewhere that it was governed around 120, once got I got past that to test it, I gave up.
