What would you guys pay for

An excellent 96 SVX with about 145,000 MILES on it. I know a lot of us are looking for deals and get some incredible buys but I'm looking for a real nice example of a 96.... i don't think there are many around and certainly not many available, so I'm looking for an honest price here.
Thanks

3000-3500. I know I'm a lowballer, but 145k on the stock tranny is a lot (it's a lot of miles period). I'd go even lower if the car was not pristine.

96's have no flare....

They are not 97's

They are OBDII

Meh, just not my style... sorry so I would agree 3k-3.5k would be a fair range

If it is a very nice one and there are not dents, engine is in good condition with no leaks, interior is in very good shape, every thing works, service records, good tires and glass, I would say that it could be worth form $5,000 to 6,000 and if super clean etc, up to $7,000. The miles are what bring the value down. I know, that is not super high mileage, but it isn't low either, so that is the price in MY opinion.

Thanks guys. It's a good start to keep me thinking. Tom, what do you mean by it's not a 97. I didn't think they changed much from 96-97 accept the front grill. What's OBDll mean...?
I'm surprised that you guys think 145,000 is high milage. I know guys who are getting 300,000-400,000 plus km on their hondas and Toyotas. I think Subaru engines are as good if not better than those....
The one I'm toying with sounds like it's pretty nice.... I have not seen it yet but expect to soon. I don't see many 96s for sale and figured a lot of the kinks would be worked out by then. And heck it's two years younger than my 94. yet my 94 has only about 100,000 miles on it...

No problem... I know what OBDll now stands for. I guess the system has its pros and cons like anything. I guess it can be a pain in the butt turning on all the sensor lights, but it also helps make repairs a little easier.... Just my thinking....

Well, determined by the condition of the car, the price would vary greatly. Let's take two 96 svxi and compare them as an example. MY brilliant red svx, and SVXCESS' Polo green svx. Both have about 100k on them, both cars likely run and drive the same smoothness, but it's apparent mine had a rougher life. There's a few dents, and some skepticly well repaired collision damage. Some minor issues like burnt out interior lights and non-functioning cruise controll are evident, but dont really impede the car's smooth ride. The interior is pretty nice, but there are signs of the car's age evident on the drivers seat and string wheel

John's, on the other hand, is immaculate. It gets detailed on a regular basis, and comes with a few subtle modifications that genrally improve the car's weaker points (ex: HID's) The interior is kept overly clean (ex: towels are kept over the armrests to prevent the suede from getting dirty) every single thing works as good as or better than it did 10 years ago as well.

Somehing like my car...Which is what Id describe as being typical, can be had for between 2500 and 3500. John's car, well...that'd be an intresting thread on it's own, but I would imagine his car could fetch an easy 8k
I dont know anything about canadian svx values though, but Id imagine they are fairly close to thos here

The OP clearly says miles...

For a Subaru, 145k is not that bad, but for the average car, that is a lot of miles. I couldn't justify spending over 3500 on a car with more than 100k miles on it. It just doesn't make any sense to me to do that.

I guess it all depends on the car. I paid 6k for this car but I have reciepts for everything. Never had any majoy body damage (according to car fax) brand new (not rebuilt) transmission from and installed by Subaru, rear wheel bearings replaced, etc. Just look at how clean that engine is! The previous owner also owned 2 Ferrari's this was his daily driver. I love the car and do not feel I over paid for it.

Yea it is miles not kms.... and that adds up to close to 250,000 kms... that is getting a little high, even for me. But I'm still taking a look at it....

Approx 16 months ago I bought a super clean, red, 1997 for $8500.

It had 67K miles on it.

When buying a used car, the BEST money you spend is the FIRST money you spend! If you are committed to buying a SVX, buy the very best one you can afford. Don't spend most of your money buying a car that you intend to "fix up" over time. Most folks underestimate the cost of "fixing" their cars and wind up never having the car they really wanted in the first place.

I would buy an SVX in whatever condition it is, as long as the chassis has no serious impact.
The highest respect I have is for Earl, now that's a smart fella
