Man you put me to shame..

My setup in the living room is an old Sony surround sound system, 200Wx2 stereo, don't know what she'll put out in surround mode, but it rattles the walls pretty easily! DVD, Laserdisc (remember those?), VCR, Dual cassette, 8 track, and Marantz 6200 turntable. TV is a digital-capable standard def. Magnavox 32" (Soon to be upgraded to an HD when the price drops a little more) and digital cable (I want satellite...)

For video games I have an XBox, PS2, Sega CD, Dreamcast, SNES, N64, Gamecube, and Atari... No I don't have all those hooked up @ the same time lol I have front inputs on my receiver, so I use those for the video games.

I don't have my computer hooked up to my TV but my next computer is going to have HDMI so I can do a similar setup, I tend to use Bit Torrent as Tivo lol but I hate having to watch it on my computer, but my computer doesn't have any sort of video out that I can plug my TV into...

For music I have a Marantz 2275 that I got in high school, with a tape deck and once I get it hooked up I'll probably move the turntable and the 8 track over to it :-P, it's a really good sounding system for being from 1976.

Any video card with DVI can be converted to HDMI. The adapters are dirt cheap on Monoprice.com

Its been a long trip!

Hi everyone, I built my first "Hi-Fi" System from a kit. The speaker enclosure from plans and it had a "Stevens" 15" woofer and a compression tweeter. "Stevens " speakers were a lot like "JBL" speakers of the day, I built a few more stereo recievers with tubes and a few power amps and preamps before kits went away with transistor and ICs. One stereo speaker system had a home made encloures from plans and three way "Bozak" speakers. A 12" woofer with coaxial twin cone tweeters and a midrange mounted above the large speaker. I also had an "Electro-Voice" three piece speaker system. A stereo pair and a common woofer. Now I have a 34" direct view HD monitor with a "DISH" HD reciever supplying the satellite signal and also the over the air signal from the local channels. The reciever is a 110w x5 per channel "JVC" unit. Speakers are left and right floor standing "Cerwin-Vega" units with 15" woofers and mids and tweeter for a three way system. The center channel is a two way with a 10" sub added. Rear channels are "Cerwin-Vegs" two way units with a twin voice coil 12" sub. I have the reciever set to Large speaker all around. My main Sub woofer is a 15" 500w powered sub. I have a JVC 7 disc DVD/DVD audio CD unit along with a Super VHS "JVC" unit. I haven't used it in a couple of years but I have quite a few SVHS tapes, so for now it stays. In the future when the HD TVs have setteled down I'll upgrade and replace the reciever with a unit that has HDMI inputs/outputs. I have a few thousand CDs and a few hundred DVD/DVD audio discs and Super VHS tapes. Do you have any idea what I do when I'm not driving my SVX ? Take care, BOBB

P/S I also have two other "DISH" recievers in other parts of the house. Both of these units have hard drive recorders which is why I don't use the SVHS unit now. "B"

I was reading 'speaker in a box' as cheap-o speakers. That is why I thought your sq may suffer. I am not in a position to judge since I don't have a voice-matched set-up either. I also don't have about 98.9% of all that other stuff in your pics. I am running a H/K receiver to Polk center and rears w/ Focal mains and a MK sub. I love the sound of the Focal's, but I had these old Fisher speakers w/ 3" paper cone tweeters that sounded better than about anything else I have heard, well maybe aside from some stupid xpensive Altec's. I am jealous of the install etc.....

The three fronts are the ones that really make everything up. That's where I chose to put my money. No real reason to dump lots of money into speakers that only play ambient sounds.

They'll eventually get upgraded, but they get the job done.

If you get the chance, take a listen to Paradigm's stuff. Price to quality, it's about the best I've found. IMHO they blow the snot out of most other competing brands. Very smooth tweets. I built my mother a system with the Studio 100's (WAY WAY out of my price range) and it's got to be one of the best sounding systems I've heard.

But all their lines sound amazing.

I am thinking about replacing some speakers due to a moving oops. (dropped a cabinet and now it rattles at high volume levels.)
Side note: moving in the rain is a bad idea
Thanks for the heads-up on some good sounding spkrs.

I'm a big fan of Kef's myself. the Uni-Q driver is quite smooth and it has a very broad dispersion.

Re: Show us your home electronics!

I figured I'd resurrect this thread. I just got a smokin' deal on a new TV and put it in. I had been using a 40" Samsung LCD, so this is sort of a downgrade in the quality department, but a major upgrade in size.

The TV is a 60" Mitsubishi DLP (735 series) and lists for ~$1500. After cashing in $100 in Best Buy Reward Zone certificates I was able to snag it for $800. It was on clearance, and was also a floor model (It had about 400 hours used up on the lamp). They had it listed for $1000, but after some haggling they took $100 off. (Without having to purchase a service plan!)

It's the one thing that has been missing from the basement home theatre. While I was in there I took care of the rats nest of wires you can see in the first picture. I need to do a little bit more so the two wires you can see in the second picture disappear all together. That way you won't see a single wire behind the TV. Hey, neatness counts.

So here's the first TV that I had down there, the LCD that the new one replaced was actually 2" smaller than the one in this picture:

This is the new TV: (It's showing my HTPC front end software)

Here's an updated picture of the equipment rack. The PC case on the bottom had to be upgraded because of heat issues, and now houses 2.7 TB of storage capacity that is about 60% used up right now. All of my DVD's are stored in full ISO rips (aka complete disc images) and are available on demand from the TV.

And here's a crappy cell phone picture of the head end. Although it's only changed a tiny bit and you can't really tell in the picture. I upgraded to a Comcast DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem for (real world sustained) speeds of 22Mbit down / 5Mbit up.

Re: Show us your home electronics!

Yes I still haz a VCR and yes that is a MD recorder

My speakers are JBL Northridge ND310 II's and I also have the N center and N rears as well.

I have a kick ass Yamaha receiver with a THD of .005% It's only 50 watts RMS x 5 but it produces very clean power.

The TV is an old Sony 51 inch hi-def projection. Can't believe I paid $2500 for it back in 2002.

Looking into getting a Plasma or LED DLP soon.

i also has a MD recorder (retired to a storage closet), and the same TV (banished to the gameroom). i paid $2000 for it in 2002 (on sale + 15% Sears discount)! still works great, but the newer 1080p LCD puts it to shame, and is MUCH lighter!

I used to have one, not sure what ever did happen to it. Besides the ATRAC Compression they were great little things. I find myself missing them now and then.

Put the WoW down and step away slowly.

Warning: Side effects may include meeting real people and getting a life.

On a side note, nice rig. A bit of overkill for WoW, but nice.

I actually don't "WoW" that much... Just let me have my 12 hours (3 hours 4 nights a week) of Raiding!

Even though I am in a More Casual Raiding guild... we are still #1 on our Realm

This rig wasn't built for the sole use of WoW. I do alot, as I am a geek
I do alot of gaming (WoW, GRID, CS:S), Photo/Video Editing, Web Design, Etc.
