problem with computer

Ok my home built computer turns the monitor off every time I open limewire. It hasnt always done this untill recently. I tried uninstalling and restalling limewire, and that didnt do any thing. I searched through and found no answer. Does any one know what I should try or where to even look to find how to fix this?

That's a weird one. Check your display drivers to make sure they are up-to-date and Java desktop compatible (Limewire uses Java desktop). Also make sure that either "Plug and Play monitor" or the name of your monitor shows under the "settings" tab in the display dialogue.

You said it only started doing this recently...does that mean that you've had Limewire for much longer and all of a sudden this started? If that's the case, consider what you have changed in that time. If you updated Limewire or your display drivers, those are obvious likely issues. But even updating windows regularly can create problems like this, so if all else fails, you can try rolling back your updates one by one until it works again. If you find no success in all that, you may have a dying video card or monitor.

Personally i've always had bad experience with limewire, it's a poorly written java app that's unstable as hell. Have you tried torrents? much more reliable, no issues, and you can use them for everything(minus 12yr old + horse porn). I watch heroes every week, but i don't have cable. I download the HD broadcast and watch it on my 30" widescreen computer monitor. Music, same thing. Long as you know where to look, anything/everything.

I've seen limewire conflict with everything. Everyone i know has had such problems with it. It was largely abandoned due to the lack of a stable build.

bitcomet client, isohunt.com, mininova.org, btjunkie.org, cheggit.net(adult), empornium.us(adult), btbot.com should cover just about everything you want. Be sure to check seeds and leechers. Seeds are people who have the entire file. If no seeds and 50 leechers at 96%, you'll never get the entire thing, only 96%. Leechers tend to increase download speed, while seeds ensure you get the whole file.

Thumbs up

I have to agree with Jay. Limewire sucks and torrents rule.

There are many torrent clients out there but they are not all created equal. bittorrent is the original but it controls your download speeds in porportion to your upload speeds. On the plus side is uses very little resources while running in the background.

Azeurus is the most popular and allows you to control all aspects of it. Full featured but it's a resource hog. Uses Java and kills your machine unless you have a killer rig.

My personal favorite is uTorrent. Small program, full featured, extremely low resource overhead when running. I highly recommend you opt for it.

There are many places you can go to get torrents. Some require membership and others do not. Obviously I avoid the membership sites as they usually have ratio requirements on downloads. This means you must upload a certain amount of data in order to download a certain amount of data. The main reason I don't use them is if they ever get hit by the RIAA and such your account information and all you downloaded are easily available to use against you.

My favorite place to get torrents from is isohunt.com. They have nearly everything and you can see immediately how many seeds and leachers are available before selecting a torrent for downloading. I rarely fail to find what I want there.

My second favorite is strictly for television shows: xtvi.com. Great site if you want any of the more popular television shows (and some not so popular ones).

Hope this helps you.
-Johnny
