Service Records?
I have owned our Red 97 for almost a year now and have used The Network extensively for education and reference. SVXers are great people!!! I belong to several auto sites on the net and have to admit I think this one is the best and plan on staying for a long time. I purchased our SVX for my wife Rose and am so smitten with it that I plan on adding at least one more to our stable. I guess Ensteele knows what he is talking about! ...LOL. Rosies Rocket has 157,000 miles on it and after performing so well for the last year I am ready to invest in some $$$ into it to keep it for the long haul. I did a search and wasn't able to find anything in regard to researching previous maintenence. Is there a site available to look up maintenence records by vin #? I didn't ask the local Dealers as I was not impressed with their responses in seeking some rear wheel bearing replacement work. Neither wanted to repack the grease in the bearing because there was no service bulletin from Subaru on it! Too bad there is only 2 dealer$ in the area although I finally convinced one to do it right ! T.I.A. !!

It never ceases to amaze me when an auto service facility refuses to do the things we ask them to do. You didn't inquire as to whether or not the grease in the bearing should be replaced, you asked them to replace it. I've had this same experience and after being told "that's not necessary" went to another shop to have the bearing replaced. If I take a car into a shop and tell them I want them to change the air in the tires, I expect to have the air in all the tires changed, including the spare! I also expect to pay for this service, but I don't expect to haggle over whether or not they will do the work. I'm about to take my MDX in for front brake pads & I know the response I will get, "In order to do a front brake job we must replace both the pads & rotors." Bull! I'm going to ask for a simple pad replacement, just take out the old pads and put in new ones. I'll bet that I wind up taking it to at least two shops before I find one that will do what I ask them to do.

Hey, a Volvo P1800. Coooool.
You should be able to get any service done on the car by any Subaru dealer from any Subaru dealer. They shouldn't charge you and they shouldn't argue. If your local dealer won't do it, my recommendation would be to start calling dealers that are not local until you find one that will do it. I'd also buy something from them at the same time. Oil filters, wiper inserts, whatever.
