New Brake Rotor Option (very nice)

Just picked up finally a new rotor line
We are still going to be keeping our other
line of rotors (they have been great so far
with prices and quaility)
but for those maybe wanting to go a step
Up there will be about a 6 choice option
from these guys:

and Ill be stocking some of the midrange priced units, while being able to get all of them.
I know their prices are more, but think the Svx
owners would like more options for the hardcore
guys..

I love their venting design!



They call their internal venting Kangaroo Paw. From their website: The Kangaroo Paw features 144 precisely positioned diamond and tear-drop pillars. More than just making the disc stronger, the pillars provide a greater surface area than traditional straight vane designs. Greater surface area means more effective heat dissipation and cooler running disc rotors. The Kangaroo Paw disc rotors will quickly remove the heat, cool the discs, and return to optimal operating temperatures ready for the next braking application.

Cool air flows in from the centre of the disc, while hot air is forced to the outside of the disc - regardless of rotational direction. The pillars provide greater strength across the disc rotor and reduce the tendency for disc distortion.

More efficient cooling improves brake pad and disc rotor life, and helps reduce brake fade.

Im a nub in this field... so whats makes a rotor 2 pieces, and what are the benefits?

If you look at your breaks, you have 2 pads that press onto the rotor (1 on the front 1 on the back). The metal of the rotor inbetween the pads is solid. In a 2 piece rotor, there are 2 separte peices of metal (1 front and 1 back with air channels inbetween them. The advantage is in the air channels. The air passing through them cool the rotors better. By reduceing the temparature of the rotors, you reduce brake fade and also prevent warping.

A single piece rotor is machined from a single piece of metal.
Pros - least expensive method of manufacturing
Cons - If the machining isn't accurate, you can have disk surface run-out relative to the brake hat or the hub mounting surface
Cons - heavier than a two piece

A two piece rotor has a brake hat that is machined from a seperate piece of material from the rotor. The rotor remains cast, but the hat is usually machined from billet aluminum. The hat is then mounted to the rotor one of two ways, either solid or 'floating'. When solid mounted, the hat is bolted firmly to the rotor at multiple tabs machined in the rotor. When 'floating', rather than bolting the hat firmnly to the rotor, there are pins than locate the rotor radially, but allow for some misalignment axially. Under severe braking, the rotor can distort. By allowing the rotor to float, pad to rotor contact is optimized.
Pros - improved braking under severe conditions
Pros - the pins act as insulators - heat remains in the rotors and does not transfer to the hat
Cons - more expensive to produce

Two piece rotors are overkill for the street, but common in racing. They do look awesome however.

Ill be finding out today I hope which all rotors they
make for our SVXs
We just got a set of their 4000s I think it was for a
local 95 Skyline GTR...those are pretty sweet.
Hopefully they have the full line for the SVX too

thats not a bad idea, maybe everyone post which model and or style you would most be interested in and Ill see what sort of pkg they can put together for us It doesnt have to be immediate, but down the road.
This way If I decide to pre order some stuff, Ill have an idea of what
some of you may want so its on the shelf down the road.
