wanna paint my car...

i'm an ambitious kid who thinks he'll have time to prep and paint his car this summer....

k, i have a dark teal, with a pretty beat up body... scratches, dings, a dent, and rust....

i have a grandpa with a paint shop... however, i expect no help from him...(at most just a place to work)

i dont mind dark teal, but of course... i wanna stand out... maybe black over dark teal??

otherwise i wanna REALLY stick out, and i think it'd be fun to go with the STi pink with a black top... really crazy/stupid i know, but it'd be fun...(except the engine bay)

i also want stevesby's front bumper and the fiberglass w/scoop hood from dayle..... (i could just about afford both with a single paycheck so i'm only KINDA dreaming at this point, it might be a reality...)

my tranny's workin pretty good right now so i'll save my 5spd ambitions for when my tranny blows...

anybody else have any cool ideas for painting?? or any creative ways to get at the engine bay if i go with a whole new color??

i have photoshop so i'll take some pics of my car and play around, but advice is appreciated! also... zeppelin, i love the sti badge on your black grille... (mind if i try it? my grille is already black)

OMG NO PINK PLEASE

What about a nice electric blue from back in the day. Kinda retro.

House of Kolor paint chips for some ideas other than pink

Take whatever advice your grandpa is willing to give. I'd bet you can learn a lot from him and I'd bet that if you show a willingness to learn, then he'll show a willingness to teach.

My car is a similar blue, I love the color, but it was my first time doing paint so the job aint the best. Don't expect it to be perfect, but I had a fun time doing it.

I can also give some basic help/tips on prepping and paint. Hit me up on IM if you need any help.

If you go pink, it HAS to be a nice pearl pink...not a flat tone.
....I always thought the svx would look kickass pink w/ black trunklid / roof, and a bit of custom interior work (Including pink ecsaine)

you have my thumbs up...as long as its a pearl pink If your gonna do it...do it right

of course i would do it right if i did it at all....
there is an eclipse that is hot pink with GRAFX!!! ha... the next town over from me... looks like spray paint... and stickers.... i think its horrible...

it would however be my first time painting a car, and i dont know all that much about the different types of paints involved...
i've done a little research as to fixing the rust and getting the body prepped...
i hope to keep the supplies under $1000...
oh, but i wanted stevebsy's front bumper and a more aggressive hood too... (too offset the pinkness...) so $2000 in body? with all my own labor...? is that realistic?

Seems rasonable. Ooh, bit of advice...Clearcoat is your friend. Use alot of layers of clear. Also, Im pretty sure if you wet sand between coats youll get a smoother finish (No orange peel) But Im no paint expert myself.
If your repairing rust damage, theres two ways to do it...One is to cut out the rusted area and weld in a patch panel, or you can use a wire wheel to remove as much rust as possible, then spray it with rust treatment, bondoglass over it, and sand smooth. Either way, you might want to pait or rubber coat the back side of whatever you worked on to prevent it from rusting from behind.

Best of luck on the project!

i'm really curious to see how many people hate the pink... like the pink... or just are indifferent...
at least the pink is born from STi... that was my inspiration for it at least...
