Got a ticket, and call BS

I got a ticket this past Sunday, and I call bull****. I was just wondering what chances you think I stand of getting this dropped. Here is the scenario.

Four lane road with a center turn lane. Speed limit - 45. Car positioning.

One person traveling at 35 mph in a 45 in the right lane. About two to three car lengths in from of him in the left lane sits another car. About two to three car lengths in from of him in the right lane sits the final car car. This is a perfectly staggered grid of cars all traveling at the same speed.

I am in the left lane coming up to the grid of cars. I have to slow to 35 for these cars. I back off slightly, regain speed and make a casual pass in and out of the grid of cars. All is well.

I get home and two of the three cars that I passed in the cluster follow me home. I walk inside thinking nothing of it. An hour later a police officer knocks on my door and informs me that I caused "two wrecks in my daredevil highway shenanigans." He asks if I knew that I had caused the collisions to the VW Jetta and the Suzuki Samurai.

My reply... "No, i did not know that they were involved in any accidents"
The officer asks for my license and all that good stuff. I tell him that I need to go out to my car to get the insurance papers. He follows me and says, "Running people off the road isn't a good thing.".

Now here is my problem with the whole situation. Both the cars involved in the accidents were present at my house. I asked the officer if there was any damage incurred by either vehicle. He says no and proceeded to go speak with the other party's outside my house. I over hear them talking about who needs to call whose insurance company to report damages.

Is there any point in my trying to fight this ticket or am I screwed. The only thing I did wrong was fail to signal lane changes.

Do you think I was wrong in doing anything, with the exception for failure to signal.

Also will note the the police officer did not witness any of this.

I did not force my way through. It was a legitimate pass. Also near the end of the month.

Define weaving. I still call this ticket BS, but I want to know where it's coming from. How fast did you get between the cars?

Screw BS, that is flat out insurance fraud, they followed you home, so you know they never ran off the road, and why would 2 people BOTH follow you home? They were probably driving you that way to entice you, and they see the flashey car(SVX), take that one!!! Don't take the old beater that passes you, they might not have insurance! Sounds exactly like fraud to me

I saw that on a news program a few years back. And that's exactly how they pulled it off. I didn't think stuff like that was still happening.

It seems to me that if there would've been a real fender bender involved, the cop would've shown up at your door while one or the other or both vehicles was being towed away. To me "wrecks" will incur damage.

Ask yourself....how much time and money do you want to put into this? If there's no damage, submit to the insurance company......they won't pay a claim without any damage.

Insurance fraud isn't about $$$ for body damage, that is too limited and you gotta spend the $$$ to fix the damage or have a car that isn't worth as much.

They may claim injuries later, that is where $$$ comes in, you can FAKE injuries.

ticket

couple of questions for you.

1. what was the ticket issued for?
2. who signed the ticket? (police officer or private citizen)
3. how far was the "crash" from where you live?

The ticket was issued for reckless driving and was signed by the officer. The "crash" was about a mile away from my house. Good points everyone. I need a few more bits of perspective view points to use for when I go to court. As for a question asked earlier, it was a steady weave in and out. I did not force my car into their lanes to make this pass. I was "in and out" in about five seconds from the time I pulled up to the first cars fender. Which for them traveling at 35 and me making the pass at the speed limit of 45, is about the right amount of time it would take.

Now that is total BS!!! The cop didn't see it and has only their word, but still writes them a ticked, and needs to give them insurance information, but there is no damage or evidence???

That is a serious ticket, not to be taken lightly, and then they want to put a non existant accident on you to?

The ticket was for wreakless driving and the reason was for weaving in and out of traffic. That would be considered wreakless driving in Washington State as well. That is what they site you for if you pass on the right hand side of a car here. Problem is, everyone drives in the fast lane and will not move over.

That being said, I would fight it on the grounds that you did not force anyone off the road and that they followed you to your house. I just wanted to clear up why he may have written the ticket.

its unusual that the police officer did not give you a ticket for:
1. leaving the scene of an accident
2. failure to report an accident
3. failure to signal lane change

i can't see why he can issue you a ticket for wreckless driving without seeing it himself, let alone sign the ticket. in my state, police can/will issue a careless driving ticket that is signed by the other party, this way, that person has to appear in court agains you, not against the state. if i were writing the tickets, you would have recieved the 3 above also, if indeed there were a crash.
