This was almost a terrible terrible night

So yea obviously were getting pounded with snow pretty hard. The roads here are TERRIBLE to say the least. Not even plowed. My friend lives about 10 miles from my house in yonkers so I had to drop him off at home after we hung out at another friends house. We jumped on the road and we were off. The SVX was doing pretty well....skidded a tiny bit but nothing too drastic. Even some STi's that were on the road were sliding as they turned corners. I was coming around a corner very very slowly and i tapped the brake for a split second and then the ABS kicked in and sent the car skidding sideways into the curb...luckily i turned the wheel all the way and avoided the wheel hitting the curb. I got out of the car to check and see if any damage happened and there is non visable as of now. So were about to enter the highway and then boom check engine light comes on. I'm like WTF!!...it stayed on for about 10 seconds and then went away so i was like cool.

We got on the highway and cruied safley at 40 MPH...lots of cars on the side of the road. Highway wasn't even plowed . Made it safley to my friends house and then I turned the SVX around and started my journey home. Again before I got on the highway the check engine light came on again and stayed on for about 10 seconds and went away. I think the car was telling me to stay off the highway . I got on the highway and thought to myself " dayum these roads are worse than when i was coming here!!"....car was stable on the highway but there was certain times it felt like it was gonna go one way or go the other. I kept it straight and had no issues. AWD doesnt make anyone invinceable (sp?). I got off at my exit and started my 2 mile road downhill ...i literally thought i was going to die at this point. I had it in 3 and pressed the manual switch to avoid the car sliding and skidding when i braked. Can I just say how freakin awesome the manual switch is...helps so much in deep snow. The biggest challenge I thought was going to be getting up my steep hill so i slowly made my right turn and faced the beast. Gave the SVX some gas and off she went up the hill with no problems whatsoever....i was so impressed . Got to my street and made the left turn...i had to go around a little corner while making my left turn and the car wanted to slide and even thudded once...i think my solenoid C is acting up or something. This thud doesn't happen all the time but it happens sometimes. It only happens in the snow...if i floor it in the rain the car won't skid at all it will fly right off the line with ease. This only happens in the snow for some reason. Anyway I got to my house and thanked God i made it home alive .

Wow! Glad you made it home ok. Our cars are just amazing.....

And I'm glad that I live in the part of Colorado where it doesn't really snow much. In fact, we've been really warm lately, moreso than normal.

Sounds scary. Glad ya made it OK. A CEL during that kind of weather is not a welcome sight.

Tom,

Pull your codes. Even though the CEL was intermittent, there'll still be a code stored. I've heard of Subarus throwing a code if water splashes up onto certain parts of the exhaust system or egr tube. Driving in deep snow also seems like a plausible way of throwing a similar code...

I'm glad you made it home safely.

About 2.5yrs ago, I parked my teal svx at my friend's house. The svx was parked on the grass in the late summer. A lot of moistures? 5 days later, I went to drive my svx back home and when I was on Interstate, my cel light came on for like 10 secs. I was thinking if there's water touching any sensor?? I floored it and powered mode for few times....drove home. It's never thrown any CEL light until today.

I haven't experienced any CEL light came on yet even I drove on the snow like 8" more.

Glad you made it home okay.

I had some very adventures with my yellow svx as well. It's quite some snow here tonight and very icy. On a downhill, my car was kept sliding and almost hit a pole to my driver's side door. I think I went a lil bit too fast but I am glad I gained my control back. My 4 all season tires are bad!!! ( I can do alot of better with my ultra-performance all season on my teal one ).

4.44 tranny has alot of more engine braking but on certain conditions...I even need to put my tranny to "2" or "1" and was slowly sliding down the very steep hill tonight.

CEL could be a loose gas cap.

Yeah, it can be.

Maybe not on my case with the teal one....I always make sure I heard the "few clicks" ...to make sure my gas cap tight.

Could it be the seal on the gas gap not good??? If it keeps coming back occasionly....it happened on Sentra a couple times.

Interesting. Ive driven through deep puddles of rain before with no CE light but i guess globs of snow make a difference? . Ive gotten a CE light before that went off back in the summer or 04. Tom was trying to pull codes when we were trying to figure out why my car was acting up in december and no codes were stored. I wonder if an O2 sensor was flaring or something. I'm just relieved that it went away but once the snow stops and i can go outside without turning into a snowman i will try and pull any codes.

Landshark, I have all season tires on my car. I would love to have snow tires though. I have Sumitomo all season tires on there as of the moment. They have been decent in the snow but nothing special. I should have taken the legacy last night but the SVX took care of me like it always does. Has never left me stranded and always makes it through a tough situation . The thud in the snow concerns me a little though. On dry pavement my car handles very well and even in very wet slippery roads from rain it handles extremley well but it thuds sometimes in the snow. I've yet to chirp the front wheels on dry or wet pavement. Just a little in the snow though.
