driven wheel
There are two things that are giving me great misery. One is the valve cover gaskets on my svx and the second one that is the main pain is the driven wheel on the speedometer shaft. Is there a business that sell the material that you can make the valve cover gasket out of (looks like o-ring material)and how big of a job is it to replace the driven wheel on the speedometer shaft. Help.

The driven gear, I've been through.
I thought I would be able to get to it through the front differential without removing the transmission. It turned out impossible to do... And believe me, I tried! I ended up having to take it to Subaru. They have to remove the transmission, and set it on a bench to replace those little plastic like gears (as a set). They then of course re-install the tranny. They charged me $990 to include the two gears. Since the labor is so intensive, they obviously suggested replacing them both, which I of course did. I think both gears cost like a 20 spot. If anyone could pull off replacing the gears without removing the tranny, it would be Tomssvx. If he doesn't rhyme in, I would PM him. I myself could NOT pull it off after extreme effort to reach them through the differential.

Do you need the small gear or the big ring gear for the speedo?? If it is the big ring gear, it is possible to do without removing the trans. You need to be very mechanically inclined to do it though
