Shifting problem when cold

Just recently, the svx has occassionally jerked back and lost power during the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts when cold. Is this an indication that the brake band is in need of adjustment? It doesn't do it all the time. Just a few times when it's cold.

A couple of times over the past several days, in 4th gear, with a warm engine and coasting on the highway, it's lost acceleration for a split second before recovering. Both times it happened, it wasn't long enough for me to tell if it was the engine losing power or it slipping out of gear. Has anyone experienced this before? I really hope this isn't transmission related.

I wouldn't think it is the trans. The brake band is not used on the 2 to 3 change. It may be an engine problem.

Harvey.

Thanks for the reply Harvey. It puts my mind at ease somewhat. Perhaps I'll have to let the problem progress before it can be diagnosed. It hasn't done it in quite a while.

Hey. My 92 does this too, and I was told by the dealership that it was the hydraulics warming up, because they didnt have full pressure to perform the shift yet. It goes away after being warmed up, and doesnt come back. It is especially prevalent when you park on a hill, and the steeper the hill, the worse it is. But its not supposed to be a big deal.

Thanks for the info. That's probably the case. However, it did do it really bad several months ago in the 1-2 shift after the car was warmed up and driven for an extended period of time. The effect was like slamming on the brakes. Every other time it's been cold though and it very rarely does it.
