the cam that cost me 4k in work

This is a pic of the cam the the gear wave washer came loose and bent the cams in the head that cost me too much.

Phil,
I'm not sure why a problem with the backlash gear would cause mechanical failure(s) unless you were waaaaaay beyond the design limits of the EG33. The gear's design is to take up any "slop" between the intake and exhaust gears (when they "mesh" together). Can you provide a little more detail?

looks like you simply bent the snap ring that holds the gear on. I dunno though that pic doesn't show much

well the back lash gear cam loose at high rpms and all the metal wet through the motor from the snap ring and washer i put a new gear on but and when they were in there head a timed and i would spin them the woyld stick bad and were not free spinning it messed up the head so i had to get a new head wail i had the other 1 out i had the it professinaly redone then put some new bearings in to it since there was alot of metal though out the motor this is what really ruined the motor this all ran through my motor and this is just the larger stuff that was in there most of the metal turned into small shavings

ok you dont understand it says 4k in work not parts. Parts were not alot but i had so ppl do some stuff professinaly. The cams were 250 each 600 for main bearings new valves new lash adjusters 35$ for 2 35X12=420 380 for the head 250 for the connecting rod bearings 170 for all the rings.

just look at all the parts here these things are not cheep.

WHY? theres plenty of low milage SVX engines found for under $1000
Its not like you put in performance parts...

Yeah really all you had to do is swap the motor out for another SVX motor.

Well when my brother would restored older cars it was very important that you keep everything original.So i thought i would do that and buy all new parts from subaru the car only had 41k on it when the motor went bad. It had 38k on it when i gradguated and my parents gave it to me since i always wanted it.As long as i kept everything orignal because it will be well worth it in the future.
