Wax the door jam where the gasket hits the body. Use rubber treatment (armor all, etc.) stuff on the gaskets.

I keep the door waxed and use a light silicone on the seal. I apply it to a rag and wipe it on. (Sorry I don't like Arm or all).

On the rubber gasket of the car body. Hadn't thought about the door gasket.

Silicone spray works great. I did all the door and trunk seals. We get some cold cold nights and I have not had any problems.

Remember the trunk too. That is if you use it.

Only four inches? Here's my weather report - I live at 1400', in the North area . . .

a winter storm warning remains in effect until 10 am pst
saturday.

snow showers will continue into saturday. snow accumulations up to
around 12 inches are expected in the foothills through saturday.
the snow level in the north will be lowering to between 500 and
1000 feet tonight and early saturday...with a snow level near
1500 feet in the south. snow levels will rise back to between
1000 and 1500 feet in the north and 2000 feet in the south later
saturday. the snow showers are expected to decrease later
saturday.

Saturday morning, I'm going to drive my wife to work:

a winter storm warning remains in effect until 10 am pst
saturday.

snow will continue at times into saturday. the snow will be heavy
at times. an additional 2 to 3 feet of new snow is likely this
afternoon through saturday...with storm totals up to 4 feet.
storm totals of 18 inches to 3 feet are likely near the passes.
the snow will decrease later saturday.

This ought to be a good test of the SVX, the Hakkapeliitta's and my nerves.

I'm gonna make snow angels with my SVX!!!

door freezing

I tried vasoline last year. the door still froze and it was messy.
so i leave the rear seat down for those days when the door won't open and come in through the trunk which doesn't freeze.

one could also add a remote start and let the car warm up until the door opened.

i am wondering if wind deflectors would work.
where would you get wind deflectors anyway.

last year i simply used the spray i had leftover from my audi convertible.... basically its designed to de-ice the back plastic windows of a convertible so you dont use a scraper and shatter the plastic.

most stores sell it, its jsut a window de icer designed for convertibles

i also found that pouring hot water along the seam ofthe door doe a good melt job, jsut time it to open before ice forms

(its gotten as cold as 30 below here in the early am.... ive seen antifreeze freeze...how ironic)

this year ill let my autostarter do much of the work

There is a silicone gel called Sil-Glide. It is available at NAPA and Auto Zone. Just squeeze it from the tube and rub a small amount onto the rubber weatherstripping. it dries and leaves a slick, non-stick coating.

I have been using it for years and never had a sticking problem.
