Money down the drain...

Yesterday my cousin came back after taking the train in philadelphia to find his back seat right window completely smashed along with the little mini window on a 1996 Taurus. I can just imagine the cost to fix the two windows, Im guessing over $500.00 total? Considering the car is worth $1000-$1500 he didn't have the comprehensive on it. Anyone want to guess at the cost?
I will give an update when the costs are in...

They didn't take anything?

Go to a junkyard where there will likely be 100,000 wrecked 1996 Taurus's (Taurii?), probably 1,000 in exactly the same color as your cousin's car. Then remove and purchase necessary parts for about $50. Take home, install in one to two hours, drink beer.

Otherwise i'd say your looking at about $400-$500 if you don't go to a ripoff dealer's shop to get it done.

Agreed. For a car your buddy picked up for such little $$$, I'd get the glass pieces from a junk yard.

I would guess the same amount as the rest of the members. I would also go to the wrecking yard like they said as well. Why go new unless you have to.

I'll tell him that, sounds like alot of work to me though... Does the junk yard take the glass out for you? Guess it would be a good idear to get one of those info books so we know how to install the window.

BTW he said they might have stolen an umbrella but he wasn't sure. So really nothing big was stolen.

That's what I was thinking.

Up here you can't go into junkyards, but they keep a database of all the vehicles brought in and parts on them.
Call around and just ask if they have what you need.
If they do the only work involved is purchasing the glass from them and putting it in your door or whatever. o_O

The glass is the door glass right or is there a piece behind the rear door on a Taurus? If so you can get a door at Harry's U Pull it or EZ Pull in New Ringgold for like $25. Probably cheaper than putting the work into replacing the glass.

Yeah, thank you for all the suggestions. I will have to look at it tommorrow if it's nice. That's a really good idea about taking the door off another car... Anyone ever do this before? His car has power windows only, nothing else on the door so theres going to be wires going to the door I imagine EEP! I will keep you updated
