Case of the Rotting Eggs (and) Jaundice Vision

Hey all.

First. I love my svx. I've had it for about 5 months now, granted which isn't too long, but I look forward to *every* opportunity daily to drive it as when I did the day I got it. I'm sure we all feel similarly though or we wouldn't be here.

So on to the questions.
I like to feel the power of my car every once in a while, as I'm sure we all do, but something I've been noticing after hard accerlation, or just tougher road conditions- like driving up long grades, is this *smell* of rotten eggs or a sulphur smell to be more technical. I'm guessing this has to do with coolant for some reason. Any of you long term svx'ers have any clues for me on this one? Do I just need a coolant flush, or am I barking up the wrong tree entirely.

Second question.
My headlights are crusty and yellow. This is proably not unique to me, as we are all driving older cars now. Where do I get replacement *LENS's* for my svx. Is that possible? I would love to get some new plastic/accrylic in their, and have it be clear. Is this a super custom job type deal ot have done? Or can i simply buy new shiny stock SVX headlight fixture doohickeys. And of course I would like to eventually do away with the silly faux light in the middle, but i have seen several options online for that.

Thanks all, really appreciate any help

A rotten egg smell to me means a problem with the cats. I'm sure other answers will follow.......How was your last emissions test?

There is the clear lens kit sold by a member of this board, which is sold on eBay here -> http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Subar...spagenameZWDVW

The lens kit does not have fluting.

Personally, I use a plastic polish and a high speed buffer. I open the hood, pour the polish on the polishing disk, and give them a 45 second special per lens. It puts them back showroom clear, but fades back to dull/slight yellow within a few months. but.... Then I just do it again.

Doing it by hand with plastic polish is a lost cause. It has to be with a buffer, or a drill with a buffer attachment.

Hmm. I do have my exhaust system extensively modified, but for some reason I thought I had the smell even before I re-did the exhaust. For kicks, I'll go back to the exhaust place and see if they have any thoughts similar that may be able to track it down...

Also, what do you mean by fluting in this particular application?

Thank you VERY much for your help. I'll see if I can't get access to a buffer and try out what you're saying.

I don't use a buffer on mine, and they stay clear. It may take a little longer by hand, but they will clean up just fine. I would stay with the stock lenses and not go with the clear replacement ones unless you have to. jmo

Welcome to the site by the way. Hope to meet you at one of the NW meets.

Fluting is those lines, and different poly thicknesses in the lens to focus the beams. The kit comes with some sort of an adapter to focus though. I have no idea if not having the fluting makes a difference, I've never bought a pair.

A bunch of the members here have invested in them, and I've never heard anyone complain. They do look really sharp.... I'm just a little cheap and I have this hangup over originality.

Wet sanding works quite well on yellowed/foggy headlights. Just don't go so far as to sand off so much that you can't get it shiny again.

Keep in mind that Earl has so many SVX's, that the sun gets overwhelmed on dimming them out. He doesn't have to work as hard on keeping them clean.

By the way, I second this suggestion.

I will try to do the plastic polish method... something about sanding my lights sounds scary...

Any more thoughts on the sulphur smell when doing hard accelleration?

this is the other side, just so you dont think i was trying to hide any dings. hee.

this is pre-window tinting, and pre the new exhaust... ill have to do some new photoshoots with her one of these days.

And yeah, the wheels are pretty swell. I changed out the stock subaru's for these the day after I got the car. really dont like chrome, but i looove gun metal, especially against the silver. kept the subaru wheels for my snow tires though. yay snowboarding.

I am just so truly impressed with that paint/wheel combination you have. Along with your upcoming dark tint, you'll be turning heads so fast, necks will break. And I ain't kidding. I'd love to have that color/wheel scheme in that level of perfection.

I've seen the first pic before but not the second one. The car's not even clean and it still looks awesome!

I'm not sure. I dont have a great understanding of what the differential is. Something with how the wheels spin right
