Is parts availability a problem?

It doesn't sound like an insurmountable shopping list to me. There's a Subaru auto wrecker on Vancouver Island. I don't know what they would charge but the last time I was there, they had nine SVXs for bones.

PM me if you want contact info.

It has a nice set of low-mileage Konis on it, and mechanically had no major problems before the accident. Not sure yet what I'm going to do with it, either sell it to someone here or fix it up myself...

Any thoughts?

Was I speaking gospel or what???

That's actually more body damage than my dad's SVX but since the airbags popped on his that probably tripled the repair cost.

He still doesn't know what they're going to do with his.

Well, I got the car delivered to my house on Friday. I'm going to go ahead and fix it and keep on driving it.

Does anyone know the answers to the following questions:

I assume OEM body panels come primed, is this correct?

Better to paint then install or vice-versa? Do they blend paint even across seams, or is there enough visual separation there that they don't bother?

I may just go ahead and repaint the entire car. If I do, Randy won't like it.

I'm going to need a few parts, but if I'm taking the time and money to do it, I think I'll go with new body panels and lights. I also need to look through my personal parts stash before I start shopping.

Tom, I may be interested in that front clip. I'll send you a PM after I start tearing the car apart.

Glad to hear you're gonna keep her. Is there gonna be another yellow SVX running around?

As for painting Pearl is quite tough to match. A total repaint will be the best option I'd suspect.

OEM parts should come with primer on them I'd image though I've never bought any Subaru body parts.

If I can help at all let me know in your search.

Hopefully I'll see ya in Winchester on the 16th provided my cycle makes it down to the campsite in New Market friday and restarts Sunday am.

Glad you're keeping it

Subaru body panels will come with a sealer coat on them, but they will still have to be primed and wet sanded then painted.

You'll need to shoot some paint on the inside surfaces and around the edges before installing them, then they can blend the paint onto the next panel to do it without painting the whole car ( but a complete paint job would be best)

P.S.....I like Yellow

I always thought yellow would be a perfect SVX color. I am also a big fan of that dark, somewhat flattish looking grey on the Audi TT. I think that would look great on an SVX with or without the black top.

Of course, the pearl white is pretty nice too...

We'll see.

Although the pearl is difficult to match at times, it can be done. You have enough damaged body panels in the original color that they can do a "spray out" test on them to adjust the color, before spraying the new panels. If the body shop has computer matching capabilities, so much the better.

Most color swatches for each paint code have an additional 4-6 color chip variance to the stated paint code to allow for variables. As one of my body shops said to me. "I don't care what color the factory says your car is, I care about what color YOUR car is"

Back in 1992, you could take two brand-new pearlies, one coming off the assembly line at 10am and another coming off at 3pm, and park them side by side. They would probably look absolutely identical to each other, until you started swapping doors or fenders between the two...

I am soooo glad you are decideing to keep it! As for yellow, I really like the pure, clean yellow used on the 2005 Hyundai Tiburon. It does not have the slight orange tint that is found on the corvettes and other performance cars. I think its called "sunburst yellow"

If there is anything I can do to help, all you have to do is ask.
