My SVX has costed me over $16,000 in under 3 years.

I will never part with it.

We shall see but if the repairs total $16,000 they can keep the car

We'll see how it goes

What did you do with the $16K? That's not very little.

Bought for ~8000
~5000 collision repair
~2500 transmission overhaul
~600 rear windsheild
~600 tires

I'm not going to get into the small stuff. I fear the number would cause me some great distress.

Mine rattles...

I always knew that it was the heat shields that rattle, I need a little more info though to fix it. Can anybody snap a pic of where this is?? My car also whines a little right around 2thou rpm, but that isnt the heat shields is it? Anyways I hear my heat shield metal racket sound right aroun 1300 rpm. And it only does it while the car just starts, its seems to progessively go away as I drive it. Then its back when I get off of work and start my car.

btw as far as payingmoney goes, I bought my svx for 4000 even, Then I will eventually need a new radiator, cv joints<<(whats that gonna cost me??), fix the rattly thing from exhaust, and thats it. That turns my car into a 5000 dollar car which is still cheap, and now when I get done fixing it, it will probably run another 50 or 60k with no problems.

it has 90k now...

p.s. can anyone here direct me to help get rid of the clanky noise that suppose to be my heat shields. Also I dont have access to any kind of lift??

They are the aluminum things covering your steel exhaust pipe near the front of the car.

Probably not. Might be a vacuum hose.

Probably not your heat sheilds.

Not sure why you'd need new CVs unless you are going to be powering up and racing.

Original tranny?

You don't need a lift. Just make sure the car is cool and get under there. Wiggle the sheilds a bit. They are surrounding your exhaust pipe along the length of the transmission.

As an example, I spent $4800 for my '94 SVX_Lsi. The previous owner really did take good care of the car & maintained it meticulously. It has 144,000 on it. Since I bought it a year ago I have replaced the axels and boots (~$500), front rotors, calipers & brakes (~$600), Radiator ($450), Power Steering rail (~$400), and one of the 3 coils (~$150). And now the A/C compressor is making noise (~$1000?), and my CE light says I probably need both O2 sensors replaced (~250?). Call me nuts, but I LOVE this car. So much so, that I went out & bought another one.

Wow I hope I dont have to fix that much stuff on mine. Anyways Thanx for letting me know exactly where they are nikfu. I will get that fixed soon enough. As far as my cv joints go.. well thier obviously going out. They pop when I turn into parking spaces, so Ill get the joints and the boots replaced...

It does have the original tranny.. is that a bad thing for this car at 90k???

P.S. does this car run a little hot temperature wise...? Anybody have a good idea of what the cv joints and boots will cost, so I dont get ripped...

-Having an original tranny is never bad, but mine went at 93k.
Just wondering.

-No it doesn't run hot. Not a properly working SVX, anyhow.

-You're looking at anywhere from $150 to $180 (online) for a cv joint and around $10 for a boot.

I haven't noticed it running hot so much (about mid dial) as I have noticed that it seems to STAY hot under the hood for a long time after the car is off. last night I went under the hood two hours after pulling into the garage, and the alternator, compressor, and of course the engine were still quite hot. I put a tie cable on the muffler shield, and the muffler had cooled off by then.

As far as the tranny goes, the previous owner had his go out at 120,000 miles. It wasn't heat that did his in, it was the in-line screen that had plugged up, and prevented fluid from flowing anymore. So just keep it serviced every year, and flush it when you service it, and who knows, it could last a long time. My tranny guy charges $80 for flush, new filter, and refill, so it's cheap insurance as far as I'm concerned. I did the teal '92 myself last Spring, and it was enough of a PIA that I'm just gonna let the pro do it from now on.

(PS: the filter kit that is in the computer from Advanced Auto is the wrong one. it looks the same, but it doesn't fit past one of the interior tubes.) There's a fix-it note about this somewhere on line.)

it is usual for the svx engine bay to stay quite warm for a while. there is quite a bit of insulation and not much room for it to vent. in the winter when I need to service my car, I pull the svx in the garage, open the hood, come back in an hour or so and I have a nice heatd garage

Ok here's the update....

The AWD works (or so he says) I still say the front tire wouldnt spin if you step on the gas he said limited slip diff I think ?

Also he said the rattle is something with the left cataytic converter
(so I ordered two new ones and a magnaflow exhaust..oops)

As far as the ABS he said something about the sensors are hard to get to something about the frame .. I'm going in the morning to get the car I'll try to listen this time when he talks
