Car wont start sometimes?

Ok this problem has been with my car for some time now. And I have tried a couple of things. Some times my car wont start, it makes a tick when it tries to engage, and wont start some times. But the taping the starter trick wont work, and ive put new contacts in the starter with limited succces, (it seemened to work for a while but then it came back). I now have put a new starter in it, and that semened to work for a while but the problem just came back to day. I have a 5spd manule in my SVX so iam using a 90-94 legacy starter. Any ideas.

Tapping the starter won't help unledd you're tapping more power to the solenoid.

It's common for the ignition switch to drop too much voltage and not send enough to the starter. People have seen only 9 volts going to the starter.

2 solutions will resolve the issue:
- install a relay to send more power to the solenoid, or
- replace the ignition switch

I believe one member also attemped a repair on his ignition switch. A search will easily find that thread.

Significant Technical Input
Or it could just be a bad battery cable or connection. I just fixed one last weekend for the same thing. Check my post, #4, here:
