Re: What this sun visor problem?

I found out many years ago that pulling down the drivers sun visor with your right hand gripping the outer edge of the visor stresses the pivot joint greatly. The same with pulling the passenger side down with your left hand. Seems perfectly natural, but you tend to bend the joint and shear the connection.

I always twist my visor down by grabbing it at the pivot point with my left hand.

Your passenger can just hold the pivot point of their visor steady with their right hand and pulling with their left. You can also use the two-handed method on the driver's side if you prefer.

Still have the same perfect visors since new in 1996.

Re: What this sun visor problem?

To keep mine from getting worse, I use one of these. One wire slips between the headliner and vinyl trim, the base rests against the trim and the other wire holds the sunvisor in place. Can hardly see it.

Re: What this sun visor problem?

I found a tiny magnet on the side of the toolbox and using it to keep the flap from falling down into my field of vision.

Now, off to fix the droopy passenger side visor.......

Re: What this sun visor problem?

do not use Velcro...it will take the top piece off as well...trust me it doesn't look good
i couldn't use magnets either...none of the magnets i tried could hold it up there!

but you can fix it using the tutorials in the "how to do docs" ...there are 2 tutorials there and both work perfectly...

Gene

My drivers side visor droops.
The previous owner had this thing in it. It keeps it from falling.

Re: What this sun visor problem?

Those were offered on Ebay at one time. Had a pair, pricy but they worked. Unfortunately broke when uninitiated riders pulled the visor down without sliding them out of the way (including my son).

Re: What this sun visor problem?

I had found this problem when the sun visor seemed to fill out with some gas/air when heated up over the years and it was round almost like a baloon - making a pinhole in it solved the problem!

Re: What this sun visor problem?

I can't recall right now but don't the SVX visors have the support point like the BMW example?

Quick photo of a BMW 775 visor. Search Google and almost all of them have 2 support points. There are even visors with monitors and DVD Players built in

The SVX design is flawed and makes no sense. The stress you apply at the free end is sent back to the lone pivot point.
