Rear haft shafts the same?

Are the two rear half shafts the same and interchangeable? They appear to have different part numbers. I was hoping to buy one at the outrageous Subaru part and then have the removed one rebuilt at a local shop to use on the other side.

Anyone know for sure if they are interchangeable?

That would be a no. One side has a longer stubb shaft on it.

It is because the SVX rear diff is a LSD.

Not really, the SVX is the only Subaru I've seen that uses different axle in put shafts for it's LSD. The older ones had the stubb as part of the diff, and the STI rear i have in my SVX uses equal size axle shafts. Don't really know why, it's just the way they did it.
