GM Flag Waving!! 2006 Corvette ZO6!!!

Well I figured with all the stress I bring the members of this board with me being a GM'er and all, I should be the one to bestow on you the first official photos, and specs, of the 2006 Corvette ZO6.

I got these from the General Motors' Marketing Director (who stops by LS1tech from time to time to advertise i guess). I can't find them online yet to solidify it, but by looking at them, I think you'll agree they're pretty darn official.

Notice "Ram Air" style intake, enlarged heat extractors with deeper sculpted side panels, brake cooling ducts, the 345 width rear tires on 19" wheels, and extended shoulders.

The 427 returns! This time, it's an all-aluminum 3-valver cranking out 515hp/500lbft.

Six-piston front calipers on two-piece drilled rotors.

Really cool looking seats

Below are the specs that were posted with the pics.

Top Speed: 200MPH

Weight: 2,910lbs

P/W: 5.7lb/hp

0-60: 3.6 seconds

Chassis & Suspension development by Pratt & Miller, Aluminum Hydroformed frame produced by DANA
- 345/30x19 Rear tires.

Brakes designed by Brembo:
- 6 piston Front, 4 piston Rear Brake Calipers
- Cross Drilled (cast and camfered) Rotors

Engine Development by KaTech, To be hand built by new HP Engine Plant:

LS7 427ci/ 7.0L. 515HP/500 Ft Lbs
- 24V OHV
- Raced based CNC ported Aluminum Head with 70cc chambers
- 11.0:1 CR
- 41 mm (1.61") Titanium Intake valves
- 46 mm (1.81") Na filled Exhaust Valve
- 104.8 mm Bore (4.125") , 101.6 mm Stroke (4.0") Aluminum block
- Forgrd Crank
- Forged 6 bolt main Bearing Caps
- Titanium Rods
- Cast Aluminum Flat Top Pistons
- 0.591" Lift Cam (15 mm)
- Dry Sump
- 90 mm Throttle Body on Composite manifold
- Ram Air

A few things that we (enthusiasts) believe will change when the car hits the showroom - hp rating will be 500hp/500lb (following GM's trend of underrating their engines), and the titanium rods will be axed.

I'll be sure to keep you posted on anything new, but I think it's safe to say that this is 99.9% the car that we will see on display next month.

their is nothing wrong with being a gmer. other that subaru and porsche pontiac/chevy is the only thing ill drive. i once bought a fiero to put a 350 in. after the fiberglass rebody and interior i didnt have time to finish the car before school i sold it to a friend who squeezed a gm performance 572 with some 1300 hp after he put a blower on it and a roll cage. needless to say that thing is bad. last i herd the first time he drove it he broke both the axles after witch he had a level ten tranny and custom made axles put on. he said it was running in the low 10s with street tires.

a great bang-for-the-buck, but the rear end is still hideous. the C5 Vette front was fine - why did they redesign that and leave the chopped off rear???

Actually, the part that doesn't do it for me are the seats. This is a high performance Corvette for crying out loud - why can't Chevy ever seem to place two good bucket seats in one? While there's some side support, they're bolstered nothing like the seats you'll find in a Dodge Viper, EVO, STI or Golf R32!

Thumbs up Seats

I don't know if the C6 will be the same, but the C5 had electronically controlled bolsters. You could sit comfortably for cruising, or crank 'em up for spirited driving. The seats in the C5 were great....

I personally love the C6. 427? Thank god they are finally putting it back in.

Actually even my T/A has the electronic seats. "12-way power articulating bucket seats" is what the RPO code sheet says. When you slide the bolsters in, YOU AIN'T GOIN NOWHERE as they say.

Actuall that was going to be part of my next comment.

The Ford GT has a Power/Weight ratio of 6.3lb/hp and a taller first gear. Not to mention it's weight distribution is 53/47. The ZO6 is lighter, with a lower first gear and a weight distribution of 50/50. It's not hard to say which one will come out on top in that contest.

As for the ME Four Twelve, well that one is still out of the ZO6's reach. But amazingly enough, GM is not giving up on that either. Two months ago, in Motor Trend Magazine, they had a note about an even more insane vette. Codenamed "Blue Devil" this car uses an all composite body and a C6R race motor bored to 7.0L. The development car is currently pushing about 725hp and weighs about 2600lbs. With a taller gear spread and a few aerodynamic tweaks, this could be one of the fastest production cars in history, if it's produced. It would cost just under $200,000, which makes alot of people question whether anyone would pay $200g for a Corvette. But then, who would pay 1.2M for a Chrysler!? I'd love to see this vette produced, but at this point it's not likely.
