Resurrection = post #52

Nintendo DS. The new portable system.

Normally, it's not something I care to show everyone, but I have just seen this thing in action for the first time, and I am impressed beyond belief.
Is there any room left for innovation?

Who knows.
Until we find out, have a blast.

I buy a lot of games.

A lot of games.

And what I don't buy gets played at work anyway.

Right now there's little to convince me I need a DS. I haven't seen one compelling use for the screen and stylus. It's an odd Nintendo innovation seaching for an application. Maybe I'm wrong - maybe it'll be a smash hit. But so far I don't get it.

As for whether or not htere's any innovation still in games, try something besides Street Fighter. There's plenty of innovation out there, and it doesn't even take much searching.

Oh, and I was totally on board with the PSP until the production version showed up in photos without the analog stick. Weak.

HA I don't even know what that is.

Guess I'll have to look into it.

I found:
the E3 protype

specs

Concept pics

two game screenshots

a quote,
""I want to make it the ultimate mobile device," Kutaragi told the meeting. "I need your support for that." What he seems to be aiming for, however, is a mobile technology equivalent of the Swiss Army knife - a flexible and powerful piece of equipment capable of fulfilling an extraordinarily wide range of roles depending on what software and hardware it's loaded out with."

Though the specs are very impressive, and the device is cute, I see no fun, nor do I see innovation. All I see is a wireless mini-PS2.

N.DS still has my vote.

What I meant by that was teh amount of gadetry put into the DS is going to make it nearly impossible to make the next system innovative. It has 2 screens with a touchpad. Totally top-of-line, first-of-kind. It's wireless with it's own networking ability. It has a mic enabling voice chat. According to the tech demo it's damn powerful for a small thing. The only thing I see lacking is it's use of catridges (which I have yet to verify).

edit: Everything you need to know about the DS is in the second post of this thread on some forum:

They really don't. I mean, there's the impression that Nintendo is all for kids because they have a reputation for innocent sort of stuff. But they are brilliant - of that there is little doubt.

Nintendo's games might not appeal to you or me or somebody else, but they do appeal, and in huge numbers. Clearly they don't suck.

Nintendo's pretty damned good at making a product that sells millions and millions - look at the Game Boy's incarnations. Even though the GBA was flawed (no backlight) and the SP fixed that flaw but added another (no headphone jack), it's still made them loads and loads of cash.

But sometimes they get it wrong. I think the DS is an example. Maybe I'm the one who has it wrong and it'll sell schloads - time will tell.

Is there an English version of this thread?

For now

And then the PSP will come out and you can run over strangers as you're walking past them on the road
