I am a pessimistic optimistic. I think the worst is going to happen, that way when it does, i don't feel as bad, but if the best happens, i am twice as happy.

I bought mine based on pictures. ...then I drove hundreds of miles to confirm what the pictures showed before signing anything.

The lying sack of **** salesman gave me the pictures I asked for: Underneath the car, front and rear (to show oil leaks and rust,) a picture of the driver's side seat bolster (to show cracking of the leather,) and a few general body shots.

Guess what? The huge chunk missing from the seat back panel wasn't shown because the driver's seat bolster picture was taken from the passenger's seat. The general body pictures were great, because the salesman stood in front of each and every ding or dent and had somebody else take the pictures.

...of course, I bought the car anyway. Those minor problems weren't worth making a fuss over. I'm sure Satan is warming a seat for the salesman.

Minus the obvious cosmetic problems with the paint and body, the car you're looking at could very likely be otherwise just fine, but it is simply not worth $7k or even $5k with the body damage it has. With or without the damage, I still would not buy any car without seeing it firsthand, and more importantly, driving it.

Question

I take it you're willing to drive from Cali to Texas for all that "warranty" work. Buy local!

Ron.

I connected with mine online and had it delivered... and got very, very lucky. There are just too many troubles that photos can't reveal. Fortunately the dealer made good on my squawks (they could have very easily said, "sorry, sucker"), and the car has turned out to be a gem, but I doubt I'd go that route again.

Somehow, I have no clue how, the dealer got my number and called me from Texas, I now have to either call him back tell him I'm not interested or low ball him at 5500 or something. Shipping alone is 500. The carfax sais it's been in Maryland all its life which means it could probably have rust, he sais there's no rust. The interior is spotless and the car has been in no accidents but I've yet to confirm how bad the dents in the car really are. There's no question I can't really afford(timewise) to take a trip out to Texas to see and drive the car, so I'd think I'd be better off buying one more local. What do you guys think...

Mine came from about 300 miles away and was the nearest I discovered on the e-market after several months of browsing. (Found a couple closer but let 'em get away). It was so stupid of me to not take a day and go check it out, but I'm just lazy by nature. And as I said before, in this instance, I was extremely lucky.

I recommend you pass and find one closer.

you'd better see the car in person.

definitely, the passenger fender looks like a dent there to me.

After being in the market.. Seeing what's out there.. Checking a few out and from a lot of advice on these boards.. Unless the car is PRISTINE (I mean, rolled off the carrier and driven into a garage to sit for 10 years...), I wouldn't pay more than $5000 for a '95.. The '96's and '97's tend to go for more...

For the one you're looking at.. I'd call it a $4500 car.. With being from a dealer.. If he's willing to guarantee EVERYTHING mechanically, I'd go to $5000, but not a penny more.

Book value on these cars doesn't mean jack.. It's what it'll sell for that matters... ..and if you look through the Buy/Sell/Trade forum.. You'll see the average price that these sell for to people who know the SVX.
