Took me a minute to get the image of a Mig 29 out of my head.
That's rough stuff.

What???

Anyway, the title for this thread is as sensationalist as the source provided (MSNBC). '2 jets hijacked.'

We don't know that yet. It definitely seems like a possibility, but you're jumping to conclusions.

Yea... A really good guess is that they were hijacked... However there is always a maintenance quality control issue... Either that or a Fuel question since they came from the same airport.

If I had to guess though, I would lean twards terrorisim. Jet airliners are too safe to loose 2 within a few minutes of eachother... Atleast I mean, American airliners are... I don't know all that much about the Tupolev aircraft. But I know that AirBus and Boeing are excellent planes. I would imagine that the tupolev planes are great planes also since there are certian regulations that are set for construction of airplanes....

Sure they are, but as you said there's a maintenance issue. There's also the training of the crew and the quality of fuel they were using.

I don't know a lot about the state of Russia's air transportation, but if it's anything like...you know...everything else in the country, it's in scary shape.

I wouldn't 'lean' towards any particular cause until I have more facts. That's all I'm saying.

Two planes went down from the same airport. I wouldnt think its a maintenence issue although it is totally possible.

I would think that only supports an argument for an infrastructure problem. The same facility might be understaffed or undersupplied or lax in their procedures.

At any rate, the facts will come out and until then there's little point in speculating. I'm not arguing an infrastructure vs security issue - in my mine they're both possible explanations. My point is that people jump to conclusions and should spend more time examining facts. When the facts aren't available yet, then they should reserve judgement.

Facts...from Russia? That's like saying facts will come from any goverment loose facts is the term I like, something about whatever is said is probably true, but slanted in the speakers choice... I did hear a report that a transponder on 1 plane was set to the hijack code. To fill in those of you who arn't familiar with transponder it's a box that works with the radar to help locate aircraft on the radar screne and has a 4 digit code. Air traffic controll can assign each plane a number that will show up with the radar blip of the airplane so ATC can identify who is where. If this number is set to "7500" it indicates that the plane has been hijacked... You should expect a large greeting party when you land

It's not really new, they used to do it with submarines and space craft, it's just beyond our social understanding...
