I can't believe that earthworm didn't give up his very smart and very inexpensive solution: Two pieces of fuel line, or other hose, cut to the length of the "shiny" part of the strut -- a "slit" cut in one side of the length of the hose. Snap the hose over each of the extended struts, and, voila! Hood props. I'm sure it's less than 8:50 for a clip and easily stored under the hood, somewhere, unlike a broom handle.

Lift Lock for Tail Gates
Lift Lock
Came across this in an Auto Shop and I think it will make a good fix for the hood struts, they sell it for Hatches and Tailgates . It attaches to the strut shaft and when you open the hood the brace springs under the strut and holds it. Its rated to hold 350 lbs so should manage the weight of the hood. Anyway if one doesn't seem to work, simply attach another one to the other strut It's made by a company in Florida called Pylon Manufacturing Corporation, I did a search but couldn't load the site, dial up sucks at the moment. Their catalogue number on the slip is No. 8200. I might even try one of these myself, cost in Aus is $22.00, cheaper than $90 + plus for one new strut from Subaru. Kenn |

As for the price, well, my dad's a mechanic so he has a lot of extra hoses lying around. Can't beat free.

So, did you find the video? Yeah, free is low. I just figured that maybe you were trying to apply for a patent on the design.

Lift the hood carefully ues a cut-off tool to remove the underhood bracing, save 5 lbs in the process . And if you are worried about the crash protection it gives, just don't crash .

When I do work on my cars I always hang the droplight from the hood latch. Apparently that is enough weight for the SVX hood shocks to give way and slam the hood shut after about 5 minutes. I thought the light being sandwiched would cause some damage but it fits nicely when the hood is closed. Would make an intersting mod
