Pulley Problems?

Well, I finally got around to re-installing my A/C idle pulley, but for some reason now, the entire pulley assembly is moving VERY slowly now, killing the Power Steering, and all of the rest of the stuff on the other pulley. Everything works fine when I have the A/C set on "Econ", but as soon as I push the "Auto" button, the belts start acting up, spinning slowly and the lights all light up........I'm lost, and don't know what to do.......

I thought "auto" was the air conditioner. When i have it on 65 degrees and on "econ" there isnt much cold air that comes.

Perhaps your crank pulley has separated.

On ECON, the A/C compressor clutch is disengaged; all you get from the vents is fan-forced fresh air. Sounds to me like Earthworm is right.

Just purchased the lightened "stock size" (not underdrive) pulley from Dayle of Motorsport. Works great and Dayle is very helpful and nice to deal with. You'll need to be sure to torque down the bolt once you replace the pulley, plus it turns freely and you need some way to stop it from turning as you tighten it. I used a strap wrench I purchased from a local auto store. . . and rented a torque wrench to try to match the 120 foot pounds that had been recommended to me. Dunno whether the rented torque wrench was bad, but it never did "register" that I had reached the suggested torque, HOWEVER, I'm a big guy (300 pounds, 6'3") and put all my weight into it. . . and it seemed darn tight and then the strap wrench broke! And as it had steel threads running through the rubber, much like a heavy duty belt, I figured it was tight enough. That was three weeks ago and a tank or two of gas ago, it's been running great ever since. Good luck.

I'll second that approval of the lightened pulley from motorsport - I have one on each svx and both work fine. Dayle is great to deal with also.

Matt (Immortal_Suby, above) was the fellow that told my son Todd (who is Loki on the board here) about Dayle, so perhaps this will be the second pulley you've helped Motorsport sell!

Thanks so much for the tip, Immortal! Dayle WAS great to deal with: I forgot to add the shipping cost in my PayPal amount initially. Dayle shipped it anyway because I had indicated I needed it ASAP. That's class!

BTW, this forum has been very kind to us, so thanks Matt and everyone else for helping us out on this problem a few weeks ago!

I think I might have accidentally put the pulley together wrong after I replaced the bearing in the Idle Pulley. does anyone have a diagram or anything of that nature of the Belt System? Since I took the system apart right before the wreck about a month ago, i've forgotten how it goes.........stupid of me......yes

I think you're using two names for the same thing.

Two other belts drive the accessories: One for the power steering pump and alternator, the other for the AC compressor.

The diagram Earthworm gave me was the one for the timing Belt system. I was asking for the Diagram of the pulleys and belts that drive the P/s, alt. and the ones that drive the A/C.
This thing is driving me crazy, i'm starting to really get annoyed with this car.

Are you having trouble getting something aligned? There's really not much to diagram: The innermost belt drives the AC only (and I'm sure it's the smaller of the two); the outboard belt drives the alternator and power steering. Each belt has its own tensioner pulley.

Yeah, i'm having problems to say the least........

I just went out and took the A/C belt off(the smaller one) and hoped that it would fix the problem, but to no avail. The belt is acting really weird, if i'm driving normal speed, the Dash Trouble Lights don't come on, but if i'm turning slowly, the steering goes out and the lights come on.............Help........
