Any Strat Players?
Anybody out there play a Fender Strat (preferably a vintage, but I can modify the new ones)? I'm going to be putting together a Strat kit over the summer and I need a design for my headstock. If anyone out there could trace their headstock for me and send me a pic so I have a template to cut mine out, it would be greatly appreciated. I'll post pics when the project is completed.

i have a Strat - you want a trace of the headstock? how will you translate into actual size from a pic?
is it some kind of neck with a block for you to make whatever headstock shape you want, or are you making your own entire neck? (that would be extremely difficult!!!) Carvin makes some nice necks at extremely tight tolerances as a possible option if you're doing a homemade geetar. let me know how you want a headstock trace.

Thanks Alan. I'm not sure if you have a scanner, but if you were to trace the outline of the headstock and scan it, usually the scanner keeps the picture at the actual size. Actually if you could scan the headstock, that would work too. If you don't have a scanner and you have a digital camera, what would work is to take a picture of the face of the headstock with a ruler placed besides it. With the ruler as a size reference, I can adjust the size of the image in Photoshop accordingly.
The neck is already made and finished, but has a block where the headstock is due to legal issues with Fender. By profitting from a neck with a finished headstock, they would be violating a patent (not sure of the specific legal procedings). Although from one place, the neck came with a template printed onto the headstock, you just needed to do the final cutting . I wish I had the talent to build a guitar from scratch, that's some major work. Thanks again.

i'll try it with a scanner - i'll have to find the strat first! its stored away somewhere (not my favorite guitar.)
are you trying to keep it to an accurate strat reproduction? - i have a Charvel with the "pointy" headstock i could scan, too, if you want to go for a more modern look. all single coils, humbuckers, or a mix? i have a lot of running around to do today, but i'll try and get it to you this evening. PM me your e-mail addy.
