Conti Extremes
Well, after my wife drove the SVX in the blizzard last night night, I finally convinced her it needed new treads.
Anyway, of course I went with the Conti Extremes. But when I talked with my tire dealer, he gave me some bad news that I wanted to share with everyone. Once again, there is a very low stock of Conti Extremes, I was lucky enough to get a hold of some. The really bad news is that when they go back into production in a month or so, Continental is going to jack the price, due to it's popularity. So I suggest that anyone that's interested in them should get them while they're cheap.

Tirerack says they do make them in your size, $137/ea. Just to give you somewhat of an estimate, Tirerack charges $87/ea for our stock size, and my local place quoted me $470 total for everything, so in the end I'm paying about $117/ea. I hadn't heard anything back on our Rotas, that's why I decided to get them while I had the chance.

Rota doesn't really make a rim that is a good fit for our cars... they make the Attack's and the action's in a 5x114.3 but the offset is like 35mm... I think that would lead to some wheel bearing failure in the long term... I could talk to my friend and see if he could pick up some JDM BBS wheels while he's over there in Japan....

Quote:
* Subzero, 17.5 lbs (currently on my car) * Downshift, 18.5 lbs * Attack, about 17.5 lbs * Tarmac (45 mm offset), 16.5 lbs * Action, 17 lbs Rota has also just released a new wheel calle the "Torque" which is a 17x8" wheel and comes in a 48 mm offset. I expect that it will be available soon in the 5x114.3 mm bolt pattern.

I've had my 'extremes' for two weeks now. Sadly, I haven't been in any snow with them. They handle great in rain. They do have a tendancy to 'flat spot' and thump for a while until they heat up and round out again. I've had tires that were worse.
The place I bought them said they have put a lot of them on WRX's.
