Talking Date with mechanic

If all it takes is to switch your wheels around, and check your oil leaks to get a date with such a fine lady count me in.

Seriously though, make sure you also dont have directional tires like mine. Alot of your more proformance based tires (Pirelli, Toyo ect ect) are. If there on backwards you traction will suck not to mention abnormal wear.

The tires need to be removed and remounted when moving wheels from side to side. Steel Belted radials heat up and the belts settle in the first 1000 miles or so. After that, if they are put on the opposite side and travel backwards, they will try and re-settle themselves and you will experience what is know as belt separation where the inside of the tire will disintegrate and the tire will blow out.

Not a fun experience.

Well, and my mechanic is also on the same side of the country as I am

Doug: now I'm a little nervous about the wheel/tire situation... so basically I need to make sure the tires remain in the position they're in, right? I'm so glad you pointed that out, because tire blowouts are not my favorite thing.

Storminorman: I have nooo idea where the leaks are originating. I'm not engine-savvy at all. I'll look into the Auto-Rx though Thanks!

Your explaination is exactly correct. Steel Belted Radial tires can move front to back, but never side to side.
