A 69 Camaro for 5 grand? It'll be a gem.

Honestly, if the SVX you are looking at is in very good condition, then I would consider spending $5000 on another. One thing to consider however is having some money left over as a contigency. SVX's seem to have a tendancy to smack new owners with some costly bills rapidly.

For example: I bought my SVX for $4900 ($5200 after taxes and registration) w/ 63.2k on it. After a year, I've spent approximately $1200 on repairs and replacements including: engine gaskets, hoses, tires, belts, Timing belt, etc.) It runs well now but still needs struts and misc other "wear" items.

As for other cars I would consider for $5000 (this is of course not knowing what you are looking for in a car)...
Acura: 90-94 Integra, Vigor
Honda: 92-95 Civic/Del Sol Si, 89-91 CRX Si, 92-95 Prelude Si
Mazda: 94-95 Miata (1.8l) *this is what I would consider the most)
Nissan: 95-96 240SX
Subaru: 96-98 Impreza
Toyota: 86-92 MR2 (most likely nonturbo or sc)

I'm of course slanted toward sporty imports, but a lot of other interesting cars are available in the same price range.

That's a pretty open-ended question. I like rwd and awd sports cars. If I had only $5k to spend on a car, I'd probably get a Nissan 240SX.

I'd go for an '89-'94 240 for about $2k and use the other $3k to swap in an SR20DET.
