Well, it's not rocket science. I'll have to talk with Brian about it, I haven't spoken with him yet. If I can't get those pieces from them, I'll fab it all myself.

I believe Brian is now selling just the prefabbed brackets and adaptors as well as instructions in a kit. His stuff really makes it easy. I would certainly recommend it to anyone. It especially helps with the modification of the crossmember, pedals and driveshaft.

Wow,this topic floated slightly off subject ! It is obvious to me there are several people that have extensive background/knowledge in what I am talking about so let me dig a little deeper here. I am speaking of only a gear swap into a 92 Auto with a fairly fresh Factory trans. Gears only, not trannys as I will lose clutch packs by going to a Legacy trans and forester Is too pricy. This leaves Gears only and 4.11 is my preference. As I understand it you can swap the R/P in the front diff Direct Bolt in but it Requires Major disassembly to R&R the Pinion shaft (thanks Subaru ! ) The rear end I can bolt a R/P to my existing LSD and that will allow me to run my Stubshafts and keep the limited slip. Does this sound correct,if not totally oversimplified ! As I understand it Gear ratio along with carrier style is based on individual model spec, not merely car line as in Legacy/Turbo?manual or auto ,base or deluxe and so on.To narrow my search then it appears an Auto Leagacy front diff will work and either a complete LSD rear diff in 4.11 or a Open gearset in my Diff. The saga continues,I am picking up a core trans Monday or Tues and will start from there. Thank you for all the informative and intelligent replys so far, cross your fingers and wish me luck

Yep, sounds like you're heading in the right direction. Remember, whatever you do, don't give up the LSD in the rear. It's a critical part of the handling balance of the car.

rear diff
So if i were to put a front differential out of a leg (4.11) onto my SVX then i will need to change the rear end to a (4.11 )
Will the leg bolt up to the SVX? |

No, it won't. The SVX uses an R180 rear diff, the Legacy and Impreza use an R160. You can swap over the ring and pinion, though.

Is that unit as a hole or do you have to set it up when you put it in there?

You have to disassemble both differentials, swap over the ring and pinion gear from the R160 Legacy diff to the R180 SVX diff, put it all back together, and put the R180 SVX diff back in your car. This converts the final drive of the SVX diff to what was in the Legacy.

Do you have to set clearances axle to axle and backlash for the ring to pinion when you do this?

I would just take both diffs to a shop that builds trannies and rear ends for trucks and say, "Hey could you please swap the ring and pinion"... and they'll do it for you. |

You do have to adjust the backlash.
