Re: SVX vs Cavalier.
Quote:
Why didn't you guys just stop your cars, get out, and compare sizes? Or would that have caused your self esteem to suffer even more?

If they made those, I would have one.

That's fine, and it says to me that, even though I don't think the car bears any significance whatsoever, you do. That's what makes the world go 'round, and I hope you enjoy both your SVX and vintage Cavalier for many more years. Just don't bother comparing them, beause they're obviously built for two very different markets.

I think Mike's cavalier is pretty cool. I like dang near anything odd ball though, so >shrug<
Anyway, it's just kinda sad when Subie's 30k awd 230hp luxury sports car can't keep up the pace with a freaking cavalier or other econobox. >sigh< - Rob |

You can put the SVX in stock form beside a AWD 911 and it'll blow its doors off the 911 in snow. Does that make the SVX a faster car?

Most standard road cars including the SVX are not truly set up to handle snow. You need narrow tyres of the correct compound, high ground clearance, and a good traction system. I believe you about the carrera 4. I had a farcical "race" with a couple of kids in a souped up fwd Escort on a snowy motorway couple of years ago. I was driving my Matra Murena[pics in my locker], a mid-engined sports car. Every time, I could walk away from them. Why? Because the rear engine in the Murena transferred the weight to the back driven wheels under acceleration [gentle, torquey] while the fwd Escort took weight off the front driving wheels, and power became irrelevant. The Porsche would be the same, the rear engine weight would help traction in slippy conditions. Joe

Remember I said in stock form Phil so that means stock tires to! I've driven Carrera 4s in 4 inches of snow and was getting passed by freaking Bimmers! I would never even consider the AWD system on the Carrera 4 as even an equal to that of a Subie simple due to the reliability factor (or lack there of). Properly set up for driving in those conditions sure it'll kill an SVX but how many Porsches actually see snow (aside from you're G-fathers)?
