gl,

Thanks for all the fascinating info on the different types.

Not sure what is commonly available here, or even was ist verboten. We live under Euro regs, and the garages are aware of these and work within them. I do know a number of years ago regulations got tough about environmental disposal of old fridges, and the use of certain types of coolant, mainly industrial use.

Automobile aircon is only starting to get common here now. You guys would be amazed at some of the so-called upmarket cars that come without it. Our import taxation on cars is so high, the distributors bring in the base models with no frills to keep the basic price looking reasonable after tax. If you decide to spec them up, even to the level that for Japanese cars is standard, then you could be adding 10-15 K to the sticker price. German cars are really bad for this. To make an Audi usable, you have to shell out for metallic, auto, alloys, aircon, leather, hid bulbs, the list goes on, and the price goes out the window.

Will not know if I can get an R12 top-up until I contact the guy in Dublin.

Joe

PS Earthworm, was not expecting a degradation in aircon performance with the tranny cooler added. I did expect it would create extra heat, and possibly affect the cooling for the engine, maybe causing the fans to work more. However, I did not set up any empirical or repeatable test to check if this would be the case.
