Exhaust questions
So today I had a local shop remove my muffler. From the cat, they installed a used resonator from a Nissan they had sitting around, then a Y piece to my stock tips. It sounds great! There is some drone to it but it's nothing terrible, kinda makes it fun. It's not loud enough for me at the high revs. It sounds awesome up to 4k, but after that it sounds stock. Should I get a different resonator, should I delete it altogether? Delete the main cat? I was also curious as to what side effects deleting the main cat would have, mostly regarding mpg's and power loss/gain. Would deleting the pre cats have adverse effects? I'm new and don't know too much about exhaust setups. Video coming soon of what it sounds like now

Re: Exhaust questions
I replaced the main cat on my '92 last summer. Upon inspection the old cat was completely empty, all the catalyst was gone. I had a Magnaflow cat installed.
There was no difference in power, just a little quieter. There is also no resonator on the car. From my experience removing the main cat won't affect performance. You're in Cali. aren't you? How could you get away with removing it? Last edited by Blacky; 12-14-2013 at 06:16 AM. |
