If you have a stock SVX exhaust,
in good condition,
and the only thing missing is the resonator,
then you should install a resonator.
I usually replace the stock resonator with a Magnaflow 10416.(20" long)
I have also used a Thrush 24214 (28" long)
The Thrush is quieter, but the Magnaflow is stainless steel.

Re: exhaust sound

I took svxfiles route with the Magnaflow when replacing my stock "buzzing" resonator. The rest of the stock exhaust was like new. The sound is restrained under power but you will always hear the Subaru boxer growl to some extent.

Re: exhaust sound

As was said before, a stock SVX exhaust is extremely quiet - i also tried to start the car a few times while it was already running. :yikes!:

You should be happy once you replace your resonator. I didnt take many of them, but long highway trips were nice with the quiet stock exhaust.

Weird...I was waiting to see if you have aftermarket exhaust or not...If you did I would totally swap my very stock and quiet muffler with a more "noisy" one
But yeah, as many of these other cool dudes said, the stock exhaust is one of the quietest I've seen...hell, sometimes I go for the keys to start it up after waiting at a red light for a few minutes

Also, it would be helpful if you could take a video of the sound...maybe it just seems noisy to you...who knows

Re: exhaust sound

I'm going to add the resonator. Once again, it is not noisy. I'm not fond of the raspy, deep throat sound when accelerating. Just my taste. Thanks for the positive inputs and the part numbers!

Re: exhaust sound

The stock exhaust on my Pearly was so quiet, driving through the lonnnnnng paddock at the ProSolo, people just walked in front of it like it wasn't even there. To reach grid without killing anyone, I'd get under way, press the clutch and REV! REV! REV! so they'd hear me!

Get that resonator in there!

I have never had that problem with my blue one. I have "growled" at people walking slow to get out of the way though. It's very satisfying. Especially when they do a little jump when they get startled.

You didn't have that problem with your OTHER SVX.

How do you mean, a golf cart to get around your private community? Do you do golf course maintenance?
Sorry to be nosy.

Re: exhaust sound

I should have said "gated community". kids roam the community on golf carts. We have 2 lakes with 4 beaches, 3 pools, a club house, a snow tubing hill and 8 playgrounds. Sorry to brag

Re: exhaust sound

Many communities around here and near the shore, allow the use go golf carts on the street. In Fla some of the retirement communities have a ton of them driving around

Re: exhaust sound

I went to my mechanic to install the resonator. Guess what? The main cat is bad. That was probably the reason for that sound I disliked. I might as well add the resonator anyway. Thanks for everyones help
