Sounds like that might work as well!

My problem is at 81 years of age and disabled by my car being totaled by a 16 year old ornamental girl 7 years ago, by the time I found my floor jack, drug it over there and jacked up the car as high as I could, wait for the air to surface, I could have already gotten my screw driver out and loosened the one clamp, poured the coolant in, tightened the clamp and gone to town to some swap-meet!!

Thanks for sharing that idea as well!!

Keith

Re: Subaru overheating, a new theory;

When I swapped an EJ22 into my '97 Legacy GT a few years ago, air in the cooling system caused rapid overheating until I bled it. Seems to be more of a problem with Subaru Legacys than some other cars.

It is definitely a problem with the SVX.

Re: Subaru overheating, a new theory;

The Subaru Outback in question has a bleeder on the top, passenger side of the one year old radiator.
And yes I bled the system multipal times.
At one point I had a cooling system pressure gauge on the radiator and the pressure was climbing over 17PSI at idle.
THIS is a sure sign of compression pressure leaking into the cooling system.

I have not as yet checked the thermostat that was in the Outback when it overheated on my parents, but I will if only to find out how/why the head gasket failed, or the head cracked.
As soon as I can get a minute, I will do so.

I still think that the cold bottom hose,
even in the light of a known HG problem, is a red flag.

More on this later.
Very tired Tom.

PS; Just got back from picking up Nick in PGH, for a short leave.
