Underdrive crank pulley

While checking the Motorsport Warehouse website, I came across an
underdrive crank pulley kit.
Just wondering if it's something I might want to consider? I'm not much for installing parts if they don't do anything. Besides, I've only had my 92' LSL for a few months and so far I'm happy with it as is.
Several of my friends with high HP "Z's" tell me I should try it.
I'm just looking for input from other SVX owners.
Thanks

Re: Underdrive crank pulley

You'd probably be better off with a lightweight crank pulley as opposed to an underdrive one. A underdrive one (a smaller crank pulley), doesn't run your necessary accessories correctly because it's too small. It will churn the a/c compressor and run the p/s pump out of the normal speeds they're used to; neither are things that the designers at Subaru thought of when they designed the car almost 20 years ago.

Re: Underdrive crank pulley

I will second that.
If you want a light weight pulley, stick to one that is stock diameter.

The SVX uses same pulley as the Impreza doesn't it???

I had a Perrin Lightened Crank Pulley on my Impreza. It weighed 1.2lbs and made the engine rev much faster.

Here are links to Impreza pulleys:

Re: Underdrive crank pulley

Thanks guys.
I looked around on horsepowerfreaks.com and there was a lot of interresting stuff.
Just wondering, does the Impreza crank pulley fit an svx?

It should do lol.
I used a alloy crank pulley for a EJ type motor on my SVX

Re: Underdrive crank pulley

Is this the pulley that everyone is refering to. I guess it should fit SVX too as it states its for 92 and up impreza. But just want to make sure before shelling out that much money. Just want to get rid of that wobbling pulley and dont like to use stock one again.

Penrin lightened crank pulley (looks like not the actual one)

thanks

Re: Underdrive crank pulley

I have a Perrin lightweight stock-sized pulley on my svx. Works great! Plus you don't have to worry about switching belts when you get one that's the stock size. I've been down the undersized crank pulley road on other cars and won't ever go back UNLESS I'd consider getting an entire pulley set to make up for the speed loss associated with a smaller crank pulley.

I don't know if I could tell a huge difference in power, but I installed a 2.5" exhaust and the lightweight pulley, and dropped .4 seconds in the 1/4 mile from those mods alone!

Re: Underdrive crank pulley

My 92 LSL has had an underdrive pulley on it since before I bought it in may of 09. I have 180K on it (had 150K when I bought it) and I have not had any problems with my accessories. Maybe I'm just lucky... IDK
