Need your opinion
I need a new car, I dont have lots of money, but i have found three SVXs in my area at used car lots (i know used car lots are a gamble, but i need the financing)
anyway the three cars are 1992 svx with 95k miles 94 with 136k miles 92 with 103k now i understand that some svxs have transmission trouble so that makes me lean towards the 94, because it should have the best out of the three, however it has the most miles... any opinions on what i should do? or maybe i shoulodnt get a svx at all... even though i really want one |

Some of those probably have a new transmission already. Get the one with the newest tranny. And supposedly 92s are fastest.

92 verses 94.
Go for the 94, it's got the best trans. The others may have been replaced but were they rebuilt properly, was the cooler cleaned out properly. It's a gamble, so I would go for the 94 It's transmission has all the mods built in and will have a clear cooler.

You really need to figure out how much money you're willing to put into an svx (not just the cost to bring it home) while you are thinking rationally. (before you have owned one)
Some are reliable, some will bite deep into the wallet unexpectedly. If you have the unfortunate handicap that is the svx gene in you then you will be unable to resist their charm and will stop at no end to replace countless numbers of wheel bearings, trannies, and engine seals. You may even go so far as to get 2 of them. If you can pick up one of these and have an extra 2k in a jar somewhere for when the tranny disintegrates then by all means, get one. These cars are great, but they are expensive to keep. Not trying to discourage you, I just want to make sure you aren't misguided by anyone. Ever heard of a succubus?

would i be better off with something like a 1992 Lexus es300?
I dont exactly have 2k extra cash laying around, the svx does look liek the kind of car that i wouldnt mind putting money into, however if its basically a given that its going to be expensive than maybe i should use my head and not buy one until i can afford it better. |

also the 103k mile 1992 svx is only 4000 dollars. I saw it personally and the guy at the lot hadnt washed it yet, the leather needed armor all, and it had some minor body issues. but it was pretty good for a ten year old car.
One ? for the svx owners, does the fan or something in the engine make a fairly loud fanlike noise? or is the engine really quiet? |

Probably the power steering pump low on fluid, they are bad to develop a leak at the tank (a $2 fix) and suck air into the fluid and making a lot of noise.... this could be a good thing, as it's a cheap fix, but tell him it might need a new PS pump which will cost $400 and get him to come down on the price
