Re: oil building up ontop of engine behind p/s pump
Just about every older Subaru ive ever worked on had a problem with oil expulsion into the intake manifold or carb from the PCV system. My exs old 85 GL did it so bad it would foul the air cleaner and turn it completely brown on one side. Im not sure how to prevent this, I believe it is a symptom of cylinder compression blow-by jetting spurts of oil into the system. Your vacuum hoses for the PCV may have started leaking and that where your oil may be coming from.... I know mine has a minor oil issue as well, another thing on the list when I pull my intake manifold.

Re: oil building up ontop of engine behind p/s pump
I reckon its coming from the IRIS butterfly valve spindle. They accumulate oil down there, that leaks out when it is stopped.
The cause I believe is the passages in the air box, where the cam breathers connect to each end, they both connect to a smaller tube that runs through the box, and exits out the right hand end of the box, to a elbow hose that finally goes into the air delivery pipe. The passages in the box are small, and will block to cause crank case pressure on full throttle. This I believe is a major cause of an engine that leaks oil from all the gaskets, and seals. Pull the box off and clean the passages. Harvey.
