HIDs: Highest lumens @ what temperature colour?

Hey guys I've been fiddling around with HIDs today (pictures below), I haven't mounted anything yet and haven't even decided about installing the HIDs yet since they're illegal and I don't have the time. Since I have a set lying around I shoved them in the housing to see what they look like.

Just out of curiousity though, my question is, does anyone know what the highest lumens are off a standard HID setup and at what temperature colour?
I'm not talking about what brand or make HID... just talking about the bulb type.

Ps the 6000K bulbs aren't properly inside the lens since the bulbs have a H4 fitting and the SVX (aussie) has a H1 housing.. just tested it for fun

Re: HIDs: Highest lumens @ what temperature colour?

5000K
has approximately 3200 lumens output, which is more than 3x the light output of the traditional halogen light and is the color temperature with the most output.

The light appears fairly white, and has light, yellowish hue when reflected off the road identical to the OEM HID-equipped vehicles. This color is for those who are looking for pure performance white improving the looks of their headlight and for those who do a lot of back road or canyon driving and need the optimal visibility.

This is the color temperature that give you the most light for your bucks.

6000K
has approximately 2800 lumens output, which is 3x the light output of the traditional halogen light and slightly less light output compared to the 5000K.

Although it has a bit lesser light output, it emits pure, whiter light with very slight and barely noticeable tint of blue and purple.

8000K
has an approximately 2550 lumens output, which is about 3x the light output of the traditional halogen light and slightly less light output compared to the 6000K.

While it has a bit lesser light output, it emits bluer light than the 6000K.

10000K
has an approximately 2200 lumens output, which is more than 2x the light output of the traditional halogen light. 10000K produces a deep blue light output approaching violet and the blue is noticeably deeper than the 8000K.

12000K
has an approximately 2100 lumens output, which is 2x the light output of the traditional halogen light. This color temperature puts out a deep bluish-violet light and is deeper colored than the 10000K.

Re: HIDs: Highest lumens @ what temperature colour?

As far as lumen output is concerned, 4300k is the highest. More or less than that color, lumens decrease.

Re: HIDs: Highest lumens @ what temperature colour?

Hey

SVXCESS - 5000K
TurboIQ - 4300K

The www.hid-sin.com website says:

- 4300K... 3200lm
- 5000K... 3200lm

How is that possible? One has to be brighter than the other

Jordan.

Re: HIDs: Highest lumens @ what temperature colour?

Sharphid.com quotes it as 4500K 3200 lumens, and 5000K 3150 lumens

Ill take less blue and more light output thank you.

OEMs use 4300K. The blue/purple effect is due to a refraction effect of the lense, not even intended. They seem blueuish/purlple when looked at from an angle, but straight in front, they're pure white.

Oh, and that web site you referred me to ain't no bible.

Re: HIDs: Highest lumens @ what temperature colour?

if HIDs are illegal and you still want them, i would recomend getting a set of 35w 4300/4500K.

they look like a bright STOCK colored bulb.
almost like you have your high beams on.

Re: HIDs: Highest lumens @ what temperature colour?

Yeah that's exactly what I'm looking for... HIDs that look like halogens but kill the halogens in brightness.

The only down fall in the headlights is how light reflects into the high beam part of the headlight as you can see in my pics

From what I've seen in my car, the projector lenses have a cut off line to stop light from pointing up in to uncoming traffic but can someone please confirm this for me!!!

Thanks, Jordan.

Re: HIDs: Highest lumens @ what temperature colour?

all projector lens headlights have the cutoffs in them

So-called "daylight" fluorescent tubes have a temperature that emulates daylight, usually 5500 or 6000. Noon daylight temperature equivalent is around 5500. any HIDs between 3500 and 5500 will be "warm" i.e. they will appear to be yellowish with little of the blue tinge that is the give-away.

I agree with sieclipse; the 4500 Ks will give you loads of light, but will not have the blue tinge so they will appear like very bright halogens.

Regards the cut-off in the projector beams, this ability to cut clean is the reason HIDs are illegal here in anything other than a projector lamp. Reflector lamps have poorer control, and the beam will produce glare that will reduce the visibility for on-coming drivers.
