So I've got a dead cylinder, but...???

...I disconnected the plug wire and tested for voltage coming in(from the harness end) and got nothing. Should be 12V+ like the other ones I would imagine. So what would cause one cylinder to go down like that? At the other end(where the wires enter the coil), the wires are exposed and probably would be arcing if they had juice. So could they have arced and fried something upstream? Where to look please? Thanks.

Since the EG33 is coil on plug setup, I would be willing to bet that the coil is fried.

Me too, but it's not even receiving a signal to ignite so I doubt it would solve my whole problem.

The coils have 12V fed to them all the time, like the injectors. The Igniter unit switches a ground to the coil when it is to fire. With the exposed wires, even if the 12V feed and the igniter wire are shorted together, it won't hurt the igniter unit as it will only allow a set current to flow to ground in the igniter, so it won't burn it out.

If you can't find 12V at the coil, then it is a simple supply problem.

Harvey.

Thanks Harvey. But where does it get its supply from? The ECU? I've got basically two inches of free wire outside of the harness loom to look at at one end. Where might the other end be?

The 12 V supply comes from Fuse No.16, splits into two at the connection on the rear of the engine. Each side is fed from there. So it would have to be where that coils Positive wire joins at that connection.

Wow, can't get much better than that! Thanks again Harvey. After digging into this, I am finding 12V at that connector. I've got the world's cheapest multimeter and I'm not even sure I'm using it right. So it's off to the dealer to get a new coil and see what that does. But in the meantime, I get to see if blowing an ATF line and dumping about 3 quarts of ATF on the street is going to cost me the tranny that I just installed two weeks ago. What a fun week!

Been there, done that. Not sure if tranny failure was as a result but I'm sure it contributed.

All Right!

Finally a day where I get stuff fixed and behind me instead of discovering more things wrong. The coil fixed the dead cylinder. I got the ATF line fixed so no more drip on the exhaust. And most importantly, I topped off the ATF and the tranny still works fine. It was down enough to lose line pressure and barely go 25mph so I was more than a little scared. But its all good now and running as well as can be expected. I can finally enjoy the 4.44s. So now its on to some cosmetic touch ups.
