Intake work for the Racer

Well, the paint is dry, now all we need to do is cut away some of the rad support to be able to fit this

In place of the passenger side headlight.

As far as we can tell this should fit into the rules for both SCCA and Grassroots Motorsports.
I started by disassembling the passenger headlight and cutting away the back section for the HB and Fog. Then I used styrofoam to carve the mold for the funnel to be fiberglassed. This was my first fiberglass work, although that is fairly obvious if you notice the roughness.

Once I was finished with the Fiberglass work, I cut away most of the front lens and replaced it with a 1/2" wire screen. Then some chrome paint for the funnel and black paint for the outside...
From the funnel there is a 4" aluminum tube shooting straight across (where the AC Dryer and ABS used to be) into a new 4" hole cut into the front of the stock airbox.

Just hope it doesn't rain.....

Make sure the drain hole in the bottom of the airbox is clear....so any water going it, can drain out.

Dave,
Very nice!! Did you use the Turtle Wax as mold release?
I think you're going to like the results -- it's very similar to what I did with my ram air set up, except I adapted an existing injection molded inlet to the 4" flex tubing I ran to the airbox.
Again, great job!!

I already enlarged the drain hole at the bottom of the box, I'm thinking of adding a drain tube to prevent the sucking in of hot underhood air??

Yeah, that's what the turtle wax was for, If I did it again, I'd probably do it without the wax, It seemed to make more of a mess than it was worth. The places that weren't waxed released just as easily

This is approximate to what I had in mind. I was thinking of doing a similar thing but the ABS unit, and the parts near it keep bumping in my way...

Excellent job you've done there

I did that mod years ago but only with th hole cut in the lower bumper, works so well that sometimes when coming to a stop the car would stall,I had to adjust my throttle cables to raise my idle but your ramair should work great, check out the new g35,it actually picks up 3hp at 60mph with there new ram air setup.

Cutting the bumper to duct air is illegal for f prepared scca rules. Funny thing though we can remove the bumper cover completely.
