new... old svx/XT article!

ok so i went garage saling this weekend in uptown and found this book in the free bin: The Used Car Book 1997-1998 After paging through it i can see why you don't see these any more... it names Chryler New Yorkers and Chevy Cavilers as best buys for the 97-98 year... hummm It did have a little article on the SVX/XT:

New for 1985, the XT used the Subaru sedan chassis, but featured wedge-shaped styling and an angular roof. The original XT was loaded with 4-wheel drive, electronic instruments and optional turbocharger. Sales were minuscule and Subaru gradually stripped the base XT so that by 1990, it had the Loyale's engine and 2-wheel drive. For 1992, Subaru replaced the XT with the all-new SVX. Its styling was even more outlandish than the XT's. Like the XT, the SVX has sold slowly. The 1988-91 XT and 1992-93 SVX have motorized shoulder belts and manual lap belts; the SVX adds a driver's airbag. The SVX offers dual airbags and normal belts on the higher LS and LSi 1994 models, and on all later models. ABS is standard on all SVXs.
The XT and SVX move well with the XT's turbo 4- or the 6-cylinder engine, but gas mileage suffers. The SVX's side windows take some getting used to--only part of each window rolls down. The handling is fine on both, but the SVX emphasizes ride a bit more than cornering. Room and comfort for two is good, but the baqck seat is useless for adults. The early XT's eletronic instrument panel, with 4-wheel drive grahics, is more irritating and unrelisable than useful.

then it goes on with this little chart...

some strange things are the curb weight... it seems the SVX went on a diet in 1994 (curb weight of 3430lbs instead of 3525lbs) and regained all of its weight again in 1996 (back to 3525)

As a person that ownes the 85 XT,turbo, and has driven the svx ( both cars, on the street and a 'closed course) I feel that these articles were written by a 'casual observer' rather than a person with any seat time!!

I love them both!!!

Whoever wrote it could use an FHI history lesson.
