Toyo "Observe" snow tires have ground up walnut shells in the tread to prevent "A Slippin' and A Slidin" as Little Richard used to sing. Maybe we need to grind up some other kind of nuts to get better traction, whether we have active 4-wheel steering, passive 4-wheel steering, or no steering at all (busted rack).

Did you hear about the new Pirelli Pistachio Pavorati?
Yeah, they tend to sing a bit at high speeds, but you find yourself wanting more no matter how loud they get.
Ron.

Ron,

I just read about the introduction of the new Cooper 'Super Duper Crab Claw' snow tires. The article was a bit scratchey on details and I'm itching to get my hands on them.

Larry (Did I mention Baltimore is the intro site)iii

so a great car or bull**** car

~X is my fifth car, i just got it back last Sat. one fix for the AWD plus service the entire tranny and bought a case of RedLine High Temp, - $700++. I have to say, have had my altimas(higher mileages) for a year, zero fix, just regular maintenances(DIY), my GS V6(higher mileage) is almost zero fix, SVX's coming the sixth mth. I'll see when it hits a yr, how much need to put on. I may consider that the AWD may actually not be working in good shape when I first got it until I felt something not right on the snow(since this is my first awd, definitely i'll have more experience and be more smart on buying an awd next time). the bull**** $700++ is less than the entire year's maintenances of my old prizm plus this is the first time i sent my car overnight for 10days at the big shop - small shop and not many people know/like to work on it . well, i may need to get new tires soon, bull****.../? still great car isn't it?

wanna satisfy yourself how the AWD works alright?
How did i do after i got my ~X back last saturday?
not sure if the awd is working. try to full throttle on gravel...ohhh the front tires spun a little bit then it picked up.
no snow to test? how did i make myself feel more happier that my awd's back? lift the car off the ground, ask someone to push the gas when it's in D, 3, 2, 1, manual, even R, (except P,N) ohhh..the four wheels did spin equally. i saw that by my big eyes which was totally different from previous - only front wheels spun. so i'm satisfied....to imagine how the awd works on snow.. looking forward to waiting for the big, big snow again..so i want to take my awd back to the same hills/mountains - see how it reacts differently..

Thank you, Ken. From your lips to God's ears.

Meanwhile, a word of caution -- it isn't good to have your wheels turning while your car is off the ground. If you want to keep that AWD going, it's best not to do that. Have fun in the snow.

May I know why not good? What kind of damage it may cause?
I was impatient and thought that that's the quickest way to see if my all wheel works. I won't do that. I'm waiting for the snow.
Shoudn't be any problem?? I just did it like one minute to make sure. Won't..won't..won't do that again.
