OK, here we go.

To get to the headbolts which attach the heads to the block (where the head gaskets live) you need to remove the "rocker covers" (a misnomer as the EG33 doesn't have rockers being a DOHC design) to remove the cams to get access to the head bolts to remove the heads.

Once he'd done that he took the heads to a machine shop to have them "skimmed" aka machined flat.

How's that?

Todd

Thanks wawazat! U r correct! Cant take the heads off without removing the cams! Not a nice job i can tell you!

Especially as the inlet cam gear is split in 2 sections & they're spring loaded together! :S

Phil,

Update: Engine's in, just gotts put the inlet manifold & a few little bits on now! Will be running sunday!

There is a threaded hole in the cam gears - you are supposed to bolt in there before removing the camshaft. The bolt will keeps the gears together and you would not have to deal with the spring.

right, all done, taken her for a drive & seems ok so far! gonna attempt a 50 mile trip home later !

1 question, how much does the temperature guage normally move when driving? mine is sitting level during town driving, & raises slightly when i speed up! But i've not had a chance to give it a real bootful to see if the temp guage shoots up like before?

Phil.

The temp gauge should stay perfectly still during any type of driving if all else is ok. It might drop a hair when you turn on the AC

Ok Guys & Girls...........SUCCESS!

Head gaskets done, problem cured!

Drove it home from portsmouth tonight (about 50 miles) & it didn't miss a beat, temp guage stayed at 1/2 way, even with a quick blast down the bypass at 110!

Have posted all the pics i took in my personal locker, so if you want to see what your engine looks like inside take a look!
