Guess who trapped a 16.577

ME!!! I'm so freaking happy. Last time I ran my car, I was running 17.04's and now I'm running 16.5.

When I took the run's tonight, my car set up was totally different. I had done the resonator "induction" mod, throttle line mod, and a different filter for tonight and I must say that the SVX was in its prime. I also took out the rear seat bottom, spare tire, jack, subwoofer, and anything else that could add weight.

Here is a break down of my fastest run.

R/T- .120
60 ft- 2.497
330 ft- 7.062
1/8 mile- 10.774 MPH- 67.09
1000- 13.913
1/4- 16.577 MPH- 84.45

All in all it was a good night with temps in the low 70's and around 30% humidity. I'm happy with the results and kicked a lot of tail losing only one race to a VTEC Accord that my buddy was driving.

Keith

That's awesome Keith! 16.5 is a good time for an SVX in the 1/4 mile.

Couple questions:

1) How did you launch the car?

2) What pressures are you running in your tires front & back?

3) When are you going back for more?!

-Chike

P.S. Drag racing SVXers are waaaay cool!

Well, Chik Chik, maybe I want to keep a few secrets and tricks up my sleeve.

I would stage up, and mash on the brakes as hard as I can because they just don't grab like they used to. I have always liked the cars acceleration at 2000 RPM, so that is where I launched at. As soon as that last light turns yellow, I hammer the gas pedal and by doing so throws the car into power mode making sure I won't shift at any RPMs below 6K.

In the front tires I was running the opposite of stock pressure. What ever the reccomended tire pressure in the front is, I ran that pressure on the back tires and vice versa.

I'll be going back for more after I get my wheel bearings and brakes fixed.

Keith

Keith,

Since our cars are automatics and have a 2500rpm stall, we may actually get better times by running more pressure in our tires to reduce the contact patch area.

When I did my 1/8 mile runs last weekend, I ran 33/29 in my tires, but yesterday I adjusted them to 40/36 per the 'Performance Tire' thread. These pressures will ensure that a more flat contact patch rests on the ground and will net a slight improvement in times as your rolling resistance is reduced...

-Chike

P.S. BTW, a 2000rpm launch is good as you start off higher in the power band!

what year / model was the Accord, Last Time I raced someone, it was a 2000 Accord V6, but it was an automatic, still beat him by 3 car lengths though....... CONGRATS though, that is a REALLY good time, keep us posted when you get everything fixed, it'll probably be quicker none-the-less. Did you use your Nitrous?

Bottles are for babies. But if I had nitrous, I would use it. Actually, I had a "little person" in the trunk with a mouth full of laughing gas and when I told him to blow, the car would rocket ahead for about half a second.

The Accord was a '99 3.0 VTEC Automatic. He had some mods done, oh well. He won the race but the time slips say that I'm FASTA!!!

Strange

Is everyone running in the high 16's in stock form??

I took mine to the Nopi Nationals in MD a week after I bought it. Out of 2 runs my worst was 16.104 at 89MPH. Although I'm a lighter FWD model. It was completely stock.

My white car ran 15.7 completely stock...so, uh, yeah. My red one ran 15.9, but it needed an oil change, new plugs, and a different driving style then the white one, which i didnt figure out until after i left...

The fwd drivetrain layout is more efficient than awd. In general from the numbers I've seen posted for stock SVXs, most of our cars will run between 15.6-17.0 secs depending on trim level (i.e. weight) and air temperature.

The LSi/LS-L models are fully loaded with leather, sunroof, etc and tip the scales 100lbs heavier than the L/LS models. FWD models are even lighter still...

So if someone with a 3600lb LS-L model, has an additional 100lbs of speaker equipment added to their car, goes to the drag strip, a high 16/low 17 sec pass will probably result.

Another big factor is air temperature. A 16.5 sec car in mid 70* weather, will probably be in the high 15's if the temps were in the low 40* range...

Let's also not fuhgeddabout sea level playing a big factor in 1/4 mile times.

Good point. Altitude can play a major factor in your final elapsed time.
