Question How many 5spds out there?

I was just wondering how many people here done the 5spd swap and how much they have paid for it. Also how well thier transmissions have held up. Thanks

SmallCar did mine and it crapped out after 10,000 miles. It was redone, and I hope I get more miles out of it this time.

Mine has been in for 3 years now, it's as good as it was when I put it in...and considering the tranny had about 175k on it when I put it in, I think it's doing well....of cours I don't race it, nor drive it a lot....about 5,000 miles a year at the most......

I've got less than a $1000 in mine.

5-speed head count

I'm working out the electrical bugs in my installation, but it's in and running.
I have less than $900 in it at this point, and don't forsee any more costs. (Knock on wood)

I helped UT_SVX put one in his and it is running great. He paid $1000 for the 2002 tranny that only had 300 miles on it. Then we did many other things involving the suspension and brakes and other various things. But for just the swap it was around $1300.

Mine was converted in March, 2004. Got about 6000 miles on it. Working great so far, but a few minor details still to work out. Paid way more than I care to admit, but, I didn't do the work, and its built to stand up to more HP and hard driving.

Vibration has been a problem for some. Usually due to the drive shaft or exhaust.

Idle seems to be an issue for some.

Starter solenoid sometimes lacks current to engage.

Im more curious as to how many are really Happy 5 spd owners..
I sold mine after a few months (done by another shop because I didnt have the time ) because of rearend noise, vibration and didnt trust it after seeing some many Wrx owners breaking transmissions.

For those who are going strong, ....thats great!

I still like mine despite blowing 5th out of the first tranny and now I can't shift it into second without it grinding. Other than that and the occasinal starter thing, it rocks.

my car shifts solid and i am really happy with that aspect of my car. its everything else wrong with my car that sucks. it also makes the car considerably faster I would imagine. 4.11 gears and a 5psd changes the attitude of the car considerably. it goes from a GT cruiser to a sports car. I have learned the more you want your car to performan the less it is a svx. if that makes sense.
