The 'Gipper' has gone

Ronald Reagan has passed on. I will always have a soft spot in my heart for him as president, because he taught us to be proud again that we are Americans. I hope that history will record that this was his greatest accomplishment.

His relationship with Nancy is one that should be modelled by many a couple...

I saw on the Today Show this morning, that he was credited with saving 77 lives while working as a life guard in his teens!!!

Oh, you mean the famous one. He truly was one of the greatest leaders our country has ever seen. He will be missed by all.

My family is pretty certain (without proof) that he was related to us. It's a long story and certain people made it intentionally hard to prove.
Still, he was one of the 20th century's best presidents.

Flags at half-staff please.

He was a great man. I wish more politicians would have learned from him and taken his example. He will be missed.

I'm sure I am gonna get 5000 PM's for this....but

IMHO, he was one of the worst 20th Century Presidents.

He was a good communicator, but his excessive deficit spending and environmental policies are going to be the death of this country (and possibly the world).

I feel bad tho that he has passed away.

wow....you were born during his era of reign. Obviously you don't remember the early 80's with exceedingly high interest rates and massive unemployment.

The trickle down theory is just that...a theory. Massive tax cuts, loopholes and other 'reagonmics' do not stimulate the economy as much as the current republican party wants you to believe.

His supply side economics did not translate into significant tax cuts for the middle class and poor. And those that were rich were made richer as it is today w/ Shrub. The wealthy do not consume as the other classes do; and this is where the trickle down theory falls apart.

We will never be able to pay off our national debt; there will come a time when we won't be able to make our interest payments on that debt. What will happen then? More tax cuts? More Reagonmics?

It might appear that I am a bleeding heart liberal. I am not. I do not believe raising taxes will help the US out of our crushing debt either. As for a solution...that is another topic at another time.

I might not know jack about svx's and cars in general, but I have degree in economics and the study of economics is a lifelong passion.

Angry OH BOY DO I WANT TO WEIGH IN HERE!!!

out of respect for the MAN and his memory... I'll wait for the flags to be raised to full staff again. Please children refrain from the negitive at least until his body is at rest. A lot of us admired the man and his administration. There will be time enough to rehash the positives and negitives of the 80's

(... JIMMY CARTER on the other hand is still alive and maybe we should look at the causes of the unemployment and budget problems that RR had)sorry ... I couldn't resist

I believe you were 14 years old in 1980. Also, never forget that your economic knowledge is the sum of the opinions of those who educated you. There are differing viable economic theories.

I voted against him. I was young and foolish. I was one of those "bleeding heart liberals". I mourned when he won.

I have since come to recognize him as one of the great modern leaders. He gave us back our pride. He enabled us to recover from a time of economic disaster. He restored strength to our nation's military, and brought us back from our state of crippled weakness. He helped us to hold our heads high as Americans as very few can. He had convictions and followed them, even if it made some people uncomfortable or cost him votes. He dared to deal with the things he knew were wrong. He forsaw the wisdom of highly advanced defense systems. He was instrumental in ending the Cold War and the foolish military escalations related to it. Even if you disagreed with him, it was clear that his leadership and decisions were motivated by what he believed deep inside to be best for our country, not his political self interests. He modeled committment.

Though I have not always agreed with him, I respect Ronald Reagan as one of the last great statesmen. Our nation needs more men of his courage in leadership.
